Henry Rollins Endorsement
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 04:56 PM by Khaotic

It's not like he's a super delegate or anything, but I enjoy and agree with his musings and "teeing off" segments on his show.

No doubt he has a pretty raw opinion as to which Democratic candidate he prefers.

Who do you think he'll be giving his support to?

When the third season of his show begins on IFC I'm sure he'll be letting us all know.

19. Doesn't look like it from this:
http://www.rochestercitynewspaper.com/music/articles/INTERVIEW:+Henry+Rollins+is+provoked/

He said he liked Kucinich and Edwards. *rock*

He indicates that he's less opposed to Obama, but that's it. Got something more recent where he's more solidly pro-Obama?

59. Not really - more like a certain type of Hollywood gravitated to Ving's persona and
would ask him to do stuff for them. He obliged. He had a family to feed, too. But, I would never say he went 'Hollywood' - he didn't. He just had many sides to him.

43. Who's got the 10 1/2?
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 06:27 PM by eilen
Black Flag, CJ, Descendants --heck the SST bands all used to tour the country constantly. They were here in Syracuse, NY a couple of times. I had such a crush on Henry. There he'd be, in those little black gym shorts--I'd get to the front of the stage, and just stay there dancing and getting crushed now and again (with the occasional big black boot in the head if I didn't see to duck). By the end, I would be totally covered in sweat--mine, his... well, that was as close as it got to my great disappointment-- I was very shy but my friend actually propositioned him (and she didn't even like the music!) but he declined, needed a place to stay for the entire band and roadies. I went out to S. Cali and saw them play there at Wabash Hall in San Diego. Same thing except the scene there was way bigger. After that he started really working out and building muscle, and cut his hair (sigh). I remember when they came back here and he had this humongus tatoo on his back --I think it was a sun-- Tommy ____ (sp?_)'s Dog band played too. Tommy was cool--he would sell tshirts and cassette tapes and hang out. A lot of purists didn't like the direction Greg et al was going with the heavy guitar and stuff, I loved it. I got really busy with life and had heard of "Henry Rollins Band" but didn't get much chance to listen to the new stuff. I did read some of his written poetry/prose and some of his spoken word. I wish I had some better quality recording of "Damaged", I like the "I can't Decide", Modern Man, etc. and still the old classic Black Flag stuff.

Californians had it made with all those great bands, DRI, COC, MDC, Youth Brigade -- there would be mad shows with 6-7 great bands. I managed to see the Minutemen in Berkeley soon before D. Boone died. Here in my upstate burg, we had very little but when we did, they were good bands and great shows--Bad Brains, Husker Du, Ramones, Sonic Youth, Clash, Bim Skala Bim, Faith No More (headed by Chuck), Butthole Surfers, 7 Seconds, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Circle Jerks, and more but never any radio airtime ever. One of our locals went on to play drums with 7 Seconds but then there was another talented scenester gone.

I was busy being married, working and being a new mom during the whole Nirvana/Seattle wave and Riot Grrl (sigh-- I would have loved her), Lollapalooza period. My old college friend called me and was like-- you wanna go? At the time we were so friggin broke, eating deli turkey ends for Thanksgiving broke, so I had to pass.

Have you listened to any of the new stuff out there? I try to pick up a Warped Tour comp every year to sample and then buy songs on ITunes. I wouldn't go to a show now, I'm too old for that, those shows are for the young. I don't want to be the aging dinosaur at music events. I like Sum 41 quite a bit right now.

Whoever posted they just saw X, I am so green from envy now. They are one of my all-time favorite bands.

60. I am 43 now,
was going to shows the last year of high school-- graduated in 1983-- was in San Diego at 19, came home and then continued going to shows through my twenties. In my later 20's, having to deal with RealLife and paying bills etc. we were totally broke. For once I was not in a multiple roommate situation where the expenses were very low--it was just me and my dh. Not that it didn't have it's positives like the food you bought yesterday was still in the frige today and no one was stealing my socks and the bathroom was not a danger zone to public health, and oh, there weren't old pizza boxes, beer cans and cigarette butts littering the common areas all the time--- also no one spilled beer on our thrift store couch.

Now my 15 year old son wants to go to shows.

I'm 31 so that would make me... 3 or 4 when Dez hit the scene. I'm not much of a punk, either. I grew up on 60s ska/rocksteady/reggae, myself, but some of those late 70s/early 80s punk bands, like Bad Brains, Black Flag, and the Misfits are great. It never gets old.

http://www.freetimes.com/stories/15/23/henry-rollins

"Who will you vote for in 2008?

I will be behind the Democratic candidate. But I hope it's not Hillary . I'm not a fan. I think she is more politician than human. Her husband was the same way. When he spoke, I felt like I was coated in some kind of aerosol lubricant. As a traveler, I didn't mind the goodwill other countries felt toward our president. When a Democrat is president of this country, the world is friendly and it's the opposite when a Republican is in office. We'll see what happens, but Hillary is a player."

...at least not if you have an ounce of rock left in your soul. 2 hours of non-stop ass-kicking rock with no bullshit. About 1/5 of the main show and all of the encores were classic Husker Du, a straight shot dead-center into the nostalgia vein. I can't possibly say enough good stuff about it, so I'm going to stop now.

BTW, you can hear his new album on the myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/bobmould

58. Rollins on Hillary: I felt like I was coated in some kind of aerosol lubricant
Can't wait for Rollins' show to kick back in some time soon. While we know he's not for Hillary and that he's said he liked Kucinich and Edwards, I have to wonder how hard he was looking at things when he made those remarks in February. Since then a lot of his friends and guests from his show have taken positions with or against Hillary or Obama.

As posted before, we do know his position on Hillary:

I hope it's not Hillary .

Not sure I agree that a Democrat is always the best choice LOL, but there you have it.
