A good point brought up today on DU: All catholics should denounce their |
|
religion and stop giving money especially Chris Mathews, if the same standard is applied to catholics as is applied to Obama's decision to stay with his church and support his preacher. After all it is the catholic church that has defended and covered up sexual abuse for years.

8. Funny you should mention that. My father drove a cab, so I have a |
|
different perspective. So, where does the cycle of victimhood end?

23. My father gave up the profession when plexiglass shields were mandated |
|
to protect the drivers. After surviving Hitler, he figured he wasn't going to die for a fare.
We discussed the issue several times. My father followed all the rules - he never even got a parking ticket - but knew the risks of going "uptown". A passenger jumping out without paying was the least of it; the real danger was robbery, of being led into a dangerous neighborhood specficially to be victimized.
So your snide tone is noted but I doubt you heard what you expected.

There was much I disagreed with, even at a young age.
Fortunately years later I stumbled upon a faith that fit my beliefs perfectly.

I lost faith in the catholic church at 15 while still in catholic school. I simply cound not reconcile the fact that, as a only child by choice, my parents were going to Hell. BS.

16. I have renounced it, also. No place for women in leadership? No place for this woman |
|
in the congregation or in the donor group.
The sexual abuse scandal(s) simply solidified for me what happens when a circle of men are running things without oversight by others. They protect themselves, no matter how heinous the offenses.

It's being ignored by the media, too. Seems like only Democrats, maybe only black people, are subject to the relentless scrutiny of their religious leaders. The Catholics got a free pass and also, why hasn't anyone talked about all of our Republican politicians who have close ties to Pat Robertson, James Dobson and all the other RW religious leaders who say outrageous things? Saying that God caused 9-11 because of gays and abortion is the same thing as saying that "God damned America", isn't it? At least Rev. Wright thought God damned America for being too bigoted. RW pastors think God damned America for not being bigoted enough! Which one is more hateful and dangerous?

15. There are many Catholics who deplore what the Church as a |
|
human institution did to cover up for corrupt priests and who may have left the human institution but still practice their faith. Being a Catholic isn't like being a member of the Rotary, after all. Obama did nothing different. He expressed his dosapproval of what his Minister said but I don't think he should have had to leave his Church because of that. Because my Pastor was a child predator does not make me one because I attend Mass at his Church and it does not make my religion bad because there may be some bad people in it. Really, this is a horse that has been beaten to death!

18. My husband & I both raised Catholic, and we left the church several years ago. |
|
I simply couldn't be part of a church where I couldn't comfortably leave my children for CCD class or children's mass. I would not even consider applying to a private school with that kind of history; I couldn't stomach going to a church like that either.

We were 'booted' for one reason or another.
Mine? I got divorced and remarried and DIDN'T get my first marriage annulled. x( Yep, hell of a crime to the Church. Now I'm going to hell.
