Anti-Obama, Anti-African American Flyer Found on SC State Rep's Desk
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 04:50 PM by VolcanoJen
Lovely. :eyes: Via Ben Smith at Politico. Photo of the flyer at the link below, as well as a high-res photo of SC State Rep Bill Sandifer, with the offensive flyer prominently displayed on his desk.

The end of the piece includes this update: UPDATED - Sources are now telling FITSNews that the e-mail including the Obama photograph was distributed to “dozens” of Republican lawmakers. Hmmm. Why do I find that not hard to believe? I guess we can expect a whole lot more of this kind of stupidity in the general election.

http://www.fitsnews.com/2008/04/03/whats-this/

A controversial flyer implying that African-Americans are lazy and do not want to work was found prominently displayed on the desk of a South Carolina State Representative earlier this week, prompting outrage from the black community and calls for the white Republican official to step down.

Allegedly entitled “Why He’ll Lose The Black Vote,” the flyer shows a crowd of African-American men fleeing from a superimposed image of presidential candidate Barack Obama, who is quoted on the flyer as promising every African-American a job.

The obvious implication of the flyer, which was photographed yesterday in a highly-visible location on the desk of S.C. State Rep. Bill Sandifer, is that African-Americans are not interested in the jobs Obama is offering them.

“If this is attempt to portray African-Americans as a group that is running away from a job, them shame on whoever’s involved in it,” said State Sen. Gerald Malloy.

13. The state of South Carolina did not go overwhelmingly for Obama.

Democrats in South Carolina went overwhelmingly for Obama in their primary election.

S.C. State Rep. Bill Sandifer is a Republican from a very Republican state.

A racist problem? Disgusting, but hardly surprising.

South Carolina is about as likely to go Democratic in November as Utah.
Don't hold your breath.

12. Let alone print it in full color
Massive waste of taxpayer money, printing out color photos -- even if they weren't Photoshopped by rightards.

10. Why would it be laying out on his desk if it were just an email attachment?
If you want to be an apologist for this type of thing, go right ahead. Sink your own boat.

16. Democrats controlled the SC legislature
Till 1994. They ended up losing it as the culmination of a 30 year use of race by the Republicans.

Race and race alone. If he's a Republican then that means his district is probably majority white. Chances are, he'll win and if anyone tries to attack him on this, it will just make him more popular.
