Supporters of Hillary Clinton: Let's contact NBC |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 10:05 PM by NewHampshireDem
WARNING FOR THE HUMOR IMPAIRED: THIS IS A SATIRE, FOLKS!Tina Fey must be fired! TINA FEY: Maybe what bothers me the most is that people say that Hillary is a bitch. Let me say something about that: Yeah, she is. So am I and so is this one.
AMY POEHLER: Yeah, deal with it.
TINA FEY: You know what, bitches get stuff done. That's why Catholic schools use nuns as teachers and not priests. Those nuns are mean old clams and they sleep on cots and they're allowed to hit you. And at the end of the school year you hated those bitches but you knew the capital of Vermont. So, I'm saying it's not too late Texas and Ohio, bitch is the new black! I suggest copying this form letter, which I copied from someplace else:
I am writing to NBC to respectfully request that Tina Fey's position with the organization be terminated, in light of her highly inappropriate comments regarding Senator and current presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton.
First, I would like to berate NBC for not suspending Tina Fey. However, I do not believe that a suspension is sufficient. I believe that termination of Tina Fey is warranted.
Had Ms. Fey made her comments in a capacity as a private citizen and on her own time, one might well argue that no adverse action should be taken against her. However, her comments were made on live television with an audience probably in the dozens, so Ms. Fey was acting in her official capacity.
Moreover, I believe that NBC, as the premiere vehicle for quality television and so-so news, must ask itself a fundamental question: what does it stand for?
I believe that had the comments uttered by Ms. Fey been made by a Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or Ann Coulter, many on the left would be outraged, and would be calling for their dismissal. Well, I, for one, cannot think for myself and so must join the chorus of supposed outrage that someone might have said something I don't agree with.
I also believe that television has a morale obligation to abide by the same made up rules that someone somewhere might ask of someone.
As a former viewer of SNL (back when it was funny), and someone who has heard of 30 Rock, it pains me to now ask for her dismissal. When SNL first started, I found Chevy Chase's Weekend Update highly informative. I can recall that he would place many documents on his desk, make jokes about things up his ass, and reassure the world that Franco was still dead. And he encouraged his audience to laugh ... but not in a mean, derogatory sort of way. I mean, rememeber the fistfight after Dan Ackroyd called Jane Curtain an 'ignorant $%^&'?
Sadly, that kind of funny is gone, and seems to have been replaced by the Tina Fey of today who compares Senator Clinton to a nun , and while acting in her official capacity with NBC, makes statements that she cannot back up with fact, such as calling Amy Poehler a bitch, too. So I guess now, Ms. Fey has some kind of 'bitch-dar' and can tell who's a bitch and who isn't?
In order for NBC not to lose it's credibility, it must terminate Tina Fey and replace her with a television personality who is dedicated not to ad homien attacks, but rather, is dedicated to real fake journalism and re-educating the public--like in a camp, where we could send Tina Fey to be with Randi Rhodes.
Thank you. What do you say? Can I count on you for the pogrom?

What, you think Tina Fey can't write her own stuff because she's a *woman*? Is that it? Huh? huh?
Oh, wait, I forgot who I'm supposed to be fake outraged at ...

I remember a lot of Hillary supporters applauding that skit when it first appeared. And how is it funny when Dan Ackroyd called Jane Curtain an "ignorant slut" but Tina Fey's routine is cause for her dismissal? http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4738308

but yes, it is a joke. I'm openly mocking another DU'er who thinks we all need to get our outrage on and write to AAR because they haven't fired Randi Rhodes.
It used to be that we on the left understood free speech and supported sticking it to the man. But now that the man is a woman, I guess all bets are off and we have to become a caricature of liberals and be all offended because someone said something hurtful. But it's okay for Tina Fey to do it because she's a woman ... oh, wait, so's Randi. So I guess it's okay for Tina to do it because she supports Hillary.
Oh well ... back to the pogrom. You with me or not? ;)

aren't there enough republican crackpots to work on? This is why they win, because people have to keep bringing up bs like this. SNL is a comedy show, hello. People like Glenn Beck are serious. No pogrom for me thank you.

Or the appreciation of it is. Not that you were being terribly subtle. I'm sorry your satire fell flat. I thought it was good.

I, unlike you, obviously missed the point. Sometimes sophisticated humor like that just goes right over my head. I'm more of a pie-in-the-face kind of laugher. Anything too clever just *pffft* right through both my ears.

I know it hurt you like it hurt me to hear such language on the television. Though I personally didn't see it, and only heard about it after scouring the internet for things to get outraged about.

27. False analogy. Unlike Randi Rhodes, Tina Fey's "bitch" was not meant as an insult |
|
Randi Rhodes' insult was meant as an insult. She is an Obama supporter and was speaking against Hillary Clinton in her performance. Fey was speaking in favor of Clinton.
Bad analogy.

29. That's Kind Of What I Thought |
|
I didn't think there was any malice in Fey's bit. Some feminists claim that a woman gets called a bitch for acting like a man. People generally think of men as better leaders (unfair, but it's the perception). A soft-spoken, demure woman would not get things done, I mean, politics aside, could you really see Laura Bush as president?
To quote Laurel Thatcher Ulrich: "Well behaved women rarely make history."
So maybe Fey was playing into that and poking fun at our notions of gender.
