Two people. Two private conversations made public.
Two people lose their positions. One a progressive talk show host, another a world reknown author, scholar and human rights center director. One politician and campaign that does not tolerate criticism and will do whatever they can to destroy it. That's what I see. Why should I vote for this candidate to be president of the United States?

1. Exactly. We've been through 8 years of an administration like this.
We don't need more of the same.

2. Hell why should anyone trust her after Bosnia gate?
She still refuses to be forthcoming about it. Why should I trust ANYTHING she says? I hate that I had to go through the past 7 years taking anything * said with a grain of salt. I do not want to go through that again!!

4. Probably for the same reasons
that I am constantly bombarded with on DU:

It doesn't matter how bad the candidate is, as long as he or she is a Democrat. If you don't vote for the Democrat, you are "voting for McCain." Do it for the Supreme Court, if nothing else.

Quality doesn't count; only winning counts for anything.

How do those arguments strike you?

They leave me pretty cold, frankly. I won't be voting for the Democrat unless a brokered convention gives me someone I can vote for in good conscience.

7. Q: How do those arguments strike you? A: Distinctly American.
In America everything is a sports game.

5. Can you imagine 4 years of the President
having journalists(Schuster), Human Rights Champions(Power) and Talk Show Hosts(Rhodes) suspended and fired. Who's next and for what?

The strong-arming head hunting is disturbing. I didn't like what Rhodes said, but I don't like those in positions of power shutting people up, either. Marching towards fascism if you ask me.

8. I do hope AAR doesn't let Randi go
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 06:57 AM by jimshoes
over this. Perhaps after a perfunctory 3 day suspension or something, they let her resume her shift. We need people who are not afraid to stand up to the high and mighty. Free speech and all that. She was after all at a club and not broadcasting over the airwaves. I don't want Randi swiftboated.

17. I think they're stupid enough to do it
& she'll go sign up with NovaM. Face it, she's AAR's cash cow & if they cancel her show, they might as well fold up the tent. I used to listen to AAR all day, every day, but then they left Sirius & about the time my subscription expired & I was considering getting XM, they fired Marc Maron, cancelled Rachel Maddow's first morning show, & infamously fired Mike Malloy while he was on his way to the studio to do the show that night! The only one left that I do like is Thom Hartmann, but I can get him on Sirius.

10. With what is said on the air on TV and radio,
why these two people for conversations not intended for the public at large? There's a character flaw issue involved from my perspective.

She gave up her position, she didn't lose it.

16. No.
I see a difference. Randi is a talk show host. She is not a part of the Obama campaign. Power's comments weren't for public consumption and out of frustration of campaign tactics. While I can see why Power had to step down in keeping with the tone the Obama campaign wants to keep, there is a difference between these two and Shaheen and Ferraro.

12. The talk-show host wasn't engaged in a "private conversation".

18. So if you were having a conversation at a party outside of work
about a presidential candidate and someone made a video tape of it and put it on the internet, you would agree you should lose your job?

19. Please take it up with the radio network, then.
I'm sure if half the support for the person was direct at them and not message boards intended to trash a good politician the situation would be remedied.

20. It's not that I don't think she should take responsibility for it given
her advisory role, it just doesn't seem proportional to something intended to be an attempt to be publicly negative and put in the public square.
