Ever been at a party or a family gathering and someone says something that they think is funny but is so tasteless that it makes you cringe?
Senator Clinton led with that "joke". It didn't just come out in the course of the conversation with Leno, she led with it. She planned it. She thinks the whole episode about the bogus sniper fire is funny and I guess she wants me to think it's funny too.
I don't.

Even a rimshot couldn't save it. From a political perspective, it was ill-advised because it only reminds everyone of her "theft-of-valor," of her disingenuousness and of her honesty in general.
Big mistake.

As someone said upthread, all this does is remind people about the incident -- and it doesn't reflect well on her. At next year's Gridiron Dinner, when she's back in the Senate, this kind of self-depricating humor would probably go over well.

Charming Hugh Grant gives a very funny toast at one of the weddings, then at the next wedding his friend, with the best of intentions, tries to give a similar toast but goes horribly awry, saying the most inappropriate and unfunny remarks. Some people just shouldn't try to be funny.

39. She's a tool. She's like a B-movie actress just reading her lines. |
|
If she had a shred of decency, she would have realized that people die from sniper fire every day in Iraq, a war which she helped enable.
If she had a shred of integrity, she would not have told phony war stories.
If she had a shred of common sense, she would have known it was stupid to remind people of her lies.
