Clinton will call for a cabinet-level "poverty czar," as the King family has requested
From NBC's Andrea Mitchell
NBC News has learned that in her remarks today, Clinton will call for a cabinet-level "poverty czar," apparantly similar to what the King family has been requesting.

Here's an excerpt from Clinton's expected remarks:
"When I say solutions, I mean finally addressing the scourge of poverty that continues to afflict so many of our families in this country. I mean appointing a cabinet level position that will be solely and fully devoted to ending poverty as we know it in America, a position that will focus the attention of our nation on this issue. That's the kind of solution I'm talking about, a solution for which Dr. King's son, Martin, has been such a passionate and effective advocate."

1. And that is a very good thing
it focuses on a "lost" issue.

3. Assuming she will find time to get around to it.
MR. RUSSERT: So, before next Tuesday's primary?

SEN. CLINTON: Well, I can't get it together by then, but I will certainly work to get it together. I'm a little busy right now; I hardly have time to sleep. But I will certainly work toward releasing, and we will get that done and in the public domain.

4. Can we please quit using the word "czar" for these kinds of titles?

There's no need to use a term that conjurs up imagery of aristocratic tyranny.

Sorry... just a pet peeve of mine.

5. And I hope she would drop the term "Czar" too.
A Czar is a dictator.

The use of this term subtly influences our society's loss of a democratic consciousness IMHO.

7. This is such a real problem in America
From Pine Ridge to Baltimore to Appalachia to the family down the street from you.

I hope this idea takes hold, and some real change happens, no matter what.

8. Not that it's a bad idea, but shouldn't this be the Sec of HHS?
I tend to get frustrated by these "created" positions that take over work that a cabinet officer should be doing.

11. I'd like to see John Edwards in that seat.
Now that he's said he's not interested in a VP spot, I think this'd be a great fit for him. He could actually create a cabinet position!
