Isn't it a little early for Hillary to cry?
The election is weeks away.

She just "choked up" during her MLK speech.

1. Stupid OP. I think she can be given a pass for this very emotional occasion. NT

Edit: Changed "Silly OP" to "Stupid OP" because "silly" was not stong enough to express my revulsion at the thread.

9. Perfect answer.
Her speech is nauseating. Perhaps unintended, but she seems to want to compare his suffering to her own.

"He persisted in his struggle..."

"Children grew up taking for granted that a woman or an African American could be president...

"As far as we've come, ...only when it is dark enough can you see the stars.

"King could see a nation torn apart BY PETTY DIFFERENCES....um, no, they were major differences..

Or...more sleep deprivation? She seems a bit "loopy" to me. Anyone else notice this?

22. She's been working hard with her....
voice coach.

"Ok now Hillary! From the top! Soft tones...that's it...nice and soft...and slow."

How transparent.

One minute she's lying about sniper fire and screaming, "SHAME ON YOUR BARACK OBAMA!!" and mocking
his supporters with her, "...celestial choirs" insults.

The next...she's...so...reverant...and contemplative. Ahhhhhhh....

She makes Sybil look like a picture of mental health.

15. Yep. It's forced ... choreographed and artificial.
It could be partly explained (I suppose) by "sleep deprivation" ... since she's coming off as tired and going through the motions.

Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 11:55 AM by TahitiNut
There wasn't 10% that came out with that ring of sincerity. If a salesperson talked to me like that, I'd leave. If a pastor spoke like that, the collection plates would be empty. Plastic. Pretentious.

Even worse, though ... as an act it came off more like melodrama than drama. (yuk!)

10. There's something VERY contrived about her tone and delivery.
It lacks sincerity ... it's too much act and not enough real. It's like she's faking sincerity. The 'punctuation' with smiles at inappropriate times ... it's like Smirk. I can't buy it ... she can't be the author. It's awful!

However, the public is FINALLY catching on to HRC's insincerity. THANK GOODNESS! :-)

35. She's like a female Chancellor Palpatine.
Ian McDiarmid, the actor who played Palpatine in all the Star Wars movies in which he appeared, said Palpatine could literally turn his tears on and off like a switch, to make a convincing performance.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palpatine#Ian_McDiarmid

There's a moment in one scene of the new film where tears almost appear in his eye. These are crocodile tears, but for all those in the movie, and perhaps watching the movie itself, they'll see he is apparently moved — and of course, he is. He can just do it. He can, as it were, turn it on. And I suppose for him, it's also a bit of a turn-on — the pure exercise of power is what he's all about. That's the only thing he's interested in and the only thing that can satisfy him — which makes him completely fascinating to play, because it is an evil soul. He is more evil than the devil. At least Satan fell — he has a history, and it's one of revenge.

39. Moved to tears by her own pre-prepared words, huh?
Hmm. That must have been one powerful fucking speech.

After all her shit during this campaign, after backing up Geraldine Ferraro after her claims of reverse racism, after attacking Wright, after insinuating to the SD's that Barack can't win because he's black, after all the race-baiting, after ALL OF THAT...

... she has the nerve to conjure TEARS on MLK's day?

I feel like a thought-provoking, emotional speech would have been a good campaign move for her today. But she always has to take it one step too far. There is ALWAYS a slight exageration to everything - the addition of false details, working up a few tears...

It feels like a manipulation. It feels like she produced those tears hoping to play the "Girl Card".

All women know about the "Girl Card" and admittedly or not, we've all probably used it at some point in our lives - especially when we were cute 18 year old hotties just discovering our new found superpower.

I'll give you an example - at my job we all have noticed that my boss takes it much easier on the girls than the guys. The guys will get chewed out or yelled at in front of everyone if there are mistakes. The most the girls will get is a snide comment or the cold shoulder, and not even that if there are other people around. Now, I haven't pulled the "Girl Card" at work because I would never give any jerk boss the satisfaction of making me cry and SCREW YOU for not having the same expectations of the women as you do the men! But I know for a FACT that if my boss were to get really angry with me, if I could somehow produce tears at that moment, I know he'd back off. He, like most people - myself included, will TOTALLY back off a female if the tears come out. Who wants to be the jerk that makes a girl cry? And many people's natural reaction - myself included - is that if I see a woman crying I naturally want to make it better, or give her the benefit of the doubt, or give her a break, or comfort her somehow. THAT'S WHAT THIS FEELS LIKE. Like she's trying to soften up the black community or something so they'll ease up on her.

Am I being WAY too cynical here?
