Who do people think Clinton will pick as VP? Who do people think Obama will pick as VP?
I am wondering if any of them will be the same. The short lists for me of who I think they could be are:

Clinton: Bayh, Vilsack, Ford, Rendell, Clark

Obama: Biden, Richardson, Gore (I can hope can't I), Webb,

What are other people's thoughts. Anyone have any ideas who McCain will pick?

his nose.

4. hmmm
Well neither list is terribly inspiring. Clinton is picking people even more conservative than she is. Honestly Edwards should be at the top of any list for possible VP material, pity that he said no.

8. As for McCain...
He will have to pick a social conservative, else when he pulls his bs straight-talk run to the center during the generals the religious conservatives will abandon him. Or he might pick some kind of Lieberman sort or maybe someone outside the party. This will lose him the support of the "family values" crowd who backed Huckabee and Romney.

Of course grabbing a moderate outside the party will seal his doom if he does not get elected.

9. I think Clinton would go with either Bayh or Vilsack . I think Obama will go with Biden,
Richardson or Webb--all of them have foreign policy experience, Webb having been Sec of Navy under Reagan.

27. Why not?

If you ask me, they both sit on the rightward side of the spectrum re: our primary candidates.

And they both have shown an affinity for idiotic (or worse) legislation and posturing: Clinton on Flag Burning and Video Games, Biden with his asinine, draconian RAVE act.

Only problem I could see is if their overinflated Egos got into some sort of a cage match.

15. If either would pick Gen. Wesley Clark...
I realize that Gen. Clark endorsed Mrs. Clinton, but if either candidate were able to convince Gen. Clark to be their running mate, I think we Democrats would suddenly own the national security issue. Who could "100 years in Iraq" McCain match against Gen. Clark?

17. I agree, that's the smart choice
A lot of people seem to think Obama wouldn't consider Clark because of his support for Clinton. I think Obama is bigger than that and smarter than that.

19. Himself
In the eyes of Americans at least... his POW will probably trump all.

Just being very honest on that.

I think it would be nice if our VP had national security experience, but we aren't going to win that battle this time around.

26. How does the POW experience trump everything else?
I think the POW experience is tied in with his military/honor themes. Clark is an accomplished, intelligent, and honorable military leader. McCain is a brash and ballsy guy with wartime experience and a privileged family history of military service.

Are voters going to reward him with the Presidency as payment for being a prisoner?

34. I didn't say that I personally think it trumps everything else.
But yes, I can see the voters doing that. Remember, most American's aren't that smart these days. The intelligent people on here sadly do not reflect all of America. Most of a America sits at home and drools over American Idle and rarely sits through an entire newscast.

But please don't get me wrong either. I have a lot of respect for both Clark and McCain. I do not dislike McCain. Even though I would prefer that he not be the president. Where as I cannot stand George Bush.

23. That instantly neutralizes McCain's only strength.
Even without Clark's "strategic" value against McCain, I think Clark is a good choice.

30. Obama/Clark would be a smart piece of political calculus. Not only would it be a 'unity" ticket ...
... since Obama/Clinton is a non-starter, it'd be symbolically powerful to have a ticket led by a black and a southern white as a running mate. Obviously, it also checkmates McCain's resume as a military 'expert' (which he's just NOT).

18. Obama will go Richardson, Kansas or West.
I'd take the "east coasters" off the list. This is going to be a traditional geographic, provide strength to weakness pick. Although I have often said he needed military--I am changing my mind. Now I think Gov. Sebelius or a wild card westerner, from Nebraska,Wyoming, Montana--might make the race interesting.

Assuming Arizona is a McCain lock--Napolitano goes off the list. Or could she make it competitive??

21. Mc Cain will pick...Nancy Reagan, thereby stealing the "women over 80" vote from HRC
while, at the same time, making himself appear more youthful on the podium
with his running mate.

Another benefit: if he runs out of DentuFix on the bus, he can borrow hers.

22. Hillary will pick...Randy Jackson, in an effort to steal the black vote from Obama and, at the same
time, get the vote of the 32 million or more Americans who call in to American Idol every week.

Plus, she can't wait for him to meet Bill and hear him say, "Aight, Dawg...".

24. And Obama will pick...hmm, I don't know who. But I feel certain it'll be someone who's
intelligent, diligent and capable, and not someone whose alma mater is the same as Monica Goodling's.
I believe he will choose people for their competence, not their complicity.

and it's a good thing I'm not tasked with making recommendations.

There's far more to it, I think, than we are privy to, and I wouldn't pretend to know who the best choice in all the pertinent areas.

35. The American Idol VP running mates:
Edited on Sun Apr-06-08 12:45 PM by Seabiscuit
Clinton will pick Simon Cowell, who is best able to deliver most biting and sarcastic zingers to his opponents on the panel, and is also the smartest and most knowledgeable among them about the subject matter, which isn't really saying much at all.

Obama will pick Paula Abdul because she's the most likely to become a devout and gushing kool-aid drinker because heaven knows she's already pretty heavily dosed up on something pretty potent.

McCain will pick Randy "Check it out, Dawg" Jackson because he's senile enough to think it will help him win the "black vote".

Obama? If not Paula Abdul, he'll not only pick, but marry Reagan's corpse.

McCain? Romney.
