Bill Gates is giving billions to his foundation - the foundation does the work he wants to do. And it's good work. Nothing objectionable about it.

I doubt it. YOu might look before shooting off your mouth. The foundation gives to a wide variety of charitable institutions -- many local to Arkansas, including churches, hospitals, aids research, breast cancer research, etc.

9. You're very wrong
they made nowhere close to >100 million per year. That's the total income for the last 8 years.

Their donations were higher than most Americans in that income bracket.

30. What's even more amazing is the write off you get from it
If indeed they were truly magnanimous then they deserve credit but where and how need to be looked at first. It is very common to use charities for a write off and even for cover ups. Flame away but I will ask to actually see these details before casting judgment.

In some ways that's not as admirable, but then again many of the big philanthripists do that these days. I can see doing it that way, too.

103. why is it not as admirable?
They give the money to the foundation -- the foundation makes disbursements to charities. THe foundation files tax returns (they've been publicly available all along). The Foundation, I might add, is operated virtually expense free other than the amounts it donates.

The "new" math?

8 years total 10,250,000 +

That would be around 1,281,250.00 + per year.

And at a 8 year TOTAL of 109 Million, that would be nearly 10% per year.

Oh Obama........

11. That is commendable but...
I wish I had made more than $109 million in the past 10 years so that I could have donated that much too.

So while the Clintons have turned his eight years in the White House into a real cash cow, ordinary Americans continue to struggle to make ends meet. As far as I'm concerned, $109 million is an obscene amount of money.

How much did Senator Obama earn from his books?

More than half of the income came from speeches by President Clinton. Will Senator Obama pledge to avoid paid speeches after he is President?

123. What does that have to do with ANYTHING?
The Clinton's legal bills definitely dwarfed Obama's studen't loans. The Clinton's income from the last 7 years also dwarfed Obama's over the past 7 years. I guess i'm not exactly sure what you're trying to point out?

But wait a minute; weren't you and your ilk posting 24/7 that Hillary's lateness in posting these financial records was clear and unequivocal proof that she had something to hide, and therefore, was not a good candidate? Poor lady just can't win.

That is what she was trying to hide.

You think $109 million makes her look more like a regular person?

To some it will make her look like a person considered as having compromised principles for personal gain.

121. Sorry, but $109mil in 7 years > "a lot of money"
I was expecting the book money and some speech money, but there have to be some really big speech checks in there.

I am sure it will come out..........
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Document_dump

A document dump is the act of responding to an adversary's request for information by presenting the adversary with a large quantity of data that is transferred in a manner that indicates unfriendliness, hostility, or a legal conflict between the transmitter and the receiver of the information. The shipment of dumped documents is unsorted, or contains a large quantity of information that is extraneous to the issue under inquiry, or is presented in a non-timely manner, or some combination of these three characteristics.

An underlying principle of information theory is that information must be comprehensible in order to be useful. One universal characteristic of a document dump is that its shippers intend to retard or slow down the process through which their adversaries can make this information comprehensible. In an effort to minimize negative coverage by the news media, document dumps will often take place at times when reporters are not on duty, such as late on a Friday when media members have left for the weekend.

......eventually.

66. here you go; details
The Clintons' charitable donations went to the Clinton Family Foundation, a charitable trust that makes charitable donations. The Foundation files its own separate return, which has been available on line all along. If you want to see them, you can find them here:

http://dynamodata.fdncenter.org/990s/990search/esearch.php

The itemized listing of the charities receiving money from the foundation (which is funded solely by the Clintons) is at the end of the Form 990 for each year.

Some people might get excited about the fact that the amount disbursed by the Foundation generally lags substantially behind the amount that the foundation receives each year. On the other hand, the money remains available for the foundation to donate, so I hope people don't make a bigger deal of that aspect. In any event, the amounts donated by the foundation are substantial, and cover a wide range of recipients, including hospitals, scholarship programs, breast canceer research, aids research, etc. etc.

I'm an Obama supporter and I hope like hell my fellow supporters graciously acknowledge that the Clintons have been very generous and should be applauded for that fact.

If all the Obama supporters were like you...I may have eventually become an Obama supporter...but their hateful right wing like attacks on a fellow Democrat drove me right into the Hillary camp.

Also, the fact that General Clark believed in her...and he KNEW who the Clintons really were (Not the propaganda spouted on DU and the MSM)...I gave her a serious look. Now I love her and would be proud to have her as the POTUS. By the way...I'd be proud of America if we had a black POTUS too. But I wouldn't be proud of left wing of our party who claim the Clintons are racists.

77. 10% is what our accountant once told us is standard
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 04:19 PM by frazzled
We could never do that much, as our income wasn't that great for many years. The less you earn, the harder it is to give it away, because just the basics take up so much, and you are generally living paycheck to paycheck pretty much.

Even though our income got somewhat better later, we still couldn't make the 10%, because we then had college tuition for two kids at expensive institutions, so our percentage actually went down.

If you are making $20 million in a year, it's not so hard to give away $2 million of it. That still leaves you $18 million before taxes, which is enough for the shelter, food, and clothing, insurance, property taxes, etc., plus a little extra (like a trip to Tahiti and a diamond watch). If you are making $50,000, it's really hard to give away $5,000 of it, because you need every penny for the basics.

Just type in "Clinton Family Foundation" and you can look at the foundation's tax returns which contain (towards the end of each return) an itemized listing of the name, address of each recipient and the amount received.)

If you are in fact really really curious, I'm sure you'll take a look at report back as to what you've seen.
