Kind of a rant...
How would you react? Would you be enthusiastic about politics again? If after 8 years of George Bush, should the country reward the Republicans another four years, I truly would think twice about ever being politically engaged again. 2004 was different. George Bush wasn't as unpopular, the public didn't fully turn against the war, and we were only beginning to learn of the incompetence of the administration. The fear of the 9/11 attacks still loomed large.
Then came Katrina, the Plame Scandal, the US Attorney Scandal, a faltering economy, and realization that every selling point for the war was a lie. If in 2008 the Democrats STILL can't win, I won't blame it on the party, a weak candidate, or the antics of Hillary Clinton should Obama become the nominee. I truly would lay the wreath at the foot of the MSM, our culture, and yes, the American people. I say this because all these polls show 80 percent of Americans believe we are headed in the wrong direction, and yet at the end of the day 50 percent will support McCain. The same poll shows that while Bush gets near zero support from folks who think the economy is going sour, that McCain gets triple the support. Something is very wrong here. I've had a fondness of Obama since the beginning, because I saw potential greatness in his campaign in really changing the soul of this nation. A true paradigm shift.
But did we need a southern charmer like Edwards? Is that what it was going to take, another southern white Christian? Is this why Dems still can't close the deal? Why is it even close? What the hell is it going to take? Either way I won't get upset. Should Ohio and other states suffering almost a mini-depression go for McCain, I'll just laugh. When I hear people saying Obama took an oath of office on the Koran despite all the avenues to gain access to information to disprove this lie, I just think to myself, "hey, it's your funeral." All I know is that sadly it will take the millennial generation to become the majority of the population in this country for real change.
