The Clintons’ Yucaipa Millions
T.W. Farnam reports on the presidential race.

Bill Clinton has an unusual position for a former president as a senior advisor to the Yucaipa Cos., the firm of billionaire Ron Burkle, a longtime friend and political donor. Today, Hillary Clinton’s campaign released the couple’s tax returns, which show they have earned at least $12.5 million from the company.

Bill Clinton has few day-to-day duties in the firm beyond increasing the prestige of the company and meeting with clients, according to press accounts. He also made an investment in an international Yucaipa fund, along with Burkle and an entity connected to the ruler of Dubai. Taking money from foreign governments is always a sensitive political issue. The issue has flared up in the campaign during recent bailouts of several Wall Street firms.

The Wall Street Journal reported in January that Bill Clinton ended his advisory relationship with the domestic company last year and is seeking to end his investments — with a payout of as much as $20 million.

The tax returns are online: http://www.cqpolitics.com/wmspage.cfm?docid=news-000002697892 with the exception of 2007 which is just an "estimate".

12. You think Bill didn't know what he was doing? Burkle's company was the pipeline to GET the cash
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 07:42 PM by blm
from Dubai to Bill. How do you know Bill wasn't using Burkle as HIS front to get the payoffs promised by Poppy Bush and his cronies for all the protection Bill gave them in the 90s?

15. oh...heh...y'know, I don't pay attention to peripheral political games. There's so much serious
stuff that needs constant attention, or else it will disappear.

BTW - did you notice that Universal is doing a movie based on Gary Webb and his 1996 CIA Drugrunning report? That could only have happened with the constant vigilance of those who refused to let the matter die at internet forums like this one.

19. It's good to hear...the reaction of many so-called progressives here to these overpaid celebrities
masquerading as populist do-gooders has me thinking the demand for an informed democracy is even deader than I thought.

Clintons' Charity Not Listed On Senate Disclosure Forms

The foundation has enabled the Clintons to write off more than $5 million from their taxable personal income since 2001, while dispensing $1.25 million in charitable contributions over that period.

-snip

Among the institutions receiving grants from the Clinton Family Foundation were Yale University, where both attended law school; groups named for deceased heads of state in Israel and Jordan; and a charity connected to the Arkansas businessman who helped Hillary Clinton make $100,000 on a commodities trade that stirred controversy a decade ago, Internal Revenue Service reports show.

-snip-

The charity is separate from the New York-based William J. Clinton Foundation, which has directed $10 billion in corporate money and resources toward slowing the global spread of AIDS, addressing climate change, and reducing hunger and poverty in developing countries.

-snip-

The Clintons have been generous to their alma maters, with donations going to Yale Law School, Georgetown University, Wellesley College and Oxford University, which Bill Clinton attended on a Rhodes Scholarship.

4. That 20 million happened to come AFTER Dubai royals put that money into Yucaipa - the same
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 06:53 PM by blm
Dubai royals who staked a large share of BCCI - the same BCCI that had its many outstanding matters deep-sixed by then President Clinton throughout the 90s protecting and benefitting BushInc, Jackson Stephens and the Dubai and Saudi royals involved, as well as operatives like Marc Rich, Adnan Kashoggi, AQ Khan and James Bath.

That's all - just more coincidence for the coincidence theorists who pop into these threads to defend the Clintons and Bushes.

5. That's interesting. I noticed you talking about this earlier
and will do a search on your posts for that information. I really want to see the 2007 tax returns but I'm going to play with the 2006 returns this weekend.

6. please be so kind
as to document Barack Obama's on the record opposition to the acquisition of P&O by Dubai Ports World, as said at the time. He was a us senator at the time, right? Surely he talked about it, since it was this terrible thing? Right? Or not?

7. Here.....
Obama Statement on Administration's Approval of Plan to Outsource U.S. Ports to United Arab Emirates

WASHINGTON -- Senator Barack Obama Tuesday issued the following statement about the Bush Administration's approval of a deal whereby Dubai Ports World, a business owned by the United Arab Emirates, would take over a British company, Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co., which runs major operations at ports in Baltimore, Miami, New Jersey, New Orleans, New York and Philadelphia.

"Over four years after the worst terrorist attack in our history, not only are we failing to inspect 95% of the cargo that arrives at U.S. ports, but now we're allowing our port security to be outsourced to foreign governments. Clearly, more time should have been spent investigating this deal and consulting with homeland security experts and local officials. I support my colleagues on both sides of the aisle who are seeking a full review of this deal."

11. You think THAT'S why Dubai was paying 20 million to Clinton? I see deep-sixing BCCI matters
throughout the 90s for the involved parties like GHWBush, Jackson Stephens, Dubai and Saudi royals, Marc Rich, Bin Ladens, AQ Khan, Adnan Kashoggi, James Bath and others to be far more worthy of THAT kind of payout.

It's not like they could pay him off WHILE he was in office.

16. you are a bit obsessed with bcci
it was a long time ago. The amount of money Dubai is dealing with now is a hundred times bcci numbers. That was child's play.

18. A position they wouldn't BE in if BCCI matters had been given the deeper scrutiny
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 08:04 PM by blm
that was requested for the many OUTSTANDING MATTERS in the last pages of that report.

BTW - NO operation that included Bushes, Stephens, Dubai and Saudi royals, Bin Ladens, Marc Rich, AQ Khan as key figures is 'old' and irrelevant. We have been stuck with Bush2, a 9-11 event, this Iraq war and will be in war with Iran because of those operations first noted in the BCCI report.

At its core, BCCI was about the funding of global terrorism through international drugrunning, armsdealing and nuclear proliferation networks facilitated by official governments and international financial institutions.

Gee - old stuff, eh? That old stuff ended up flying jets into buildings.

8. Isn't that sort of like laundering international payoffs?
Have them give money to your domestic company you have a stake in, have the company pay you the remainder after a premium is collected, as to shield the contribution coming directly from a foreign entity?
