Clintons charitable contributions went to all Clinton controlled foundations?
*snip

During that time, the Clintons paid $33.8 million in federal taxes and claimed deductions for $10.2 million in charitable contributions. The contributions went to a family foundation run by the Clintons that has given away only about half of the money they put into it, and most of that was last year, after Mrs. Clinton declared her candidacy.

1. this has been covered in any number of threads: nothing to hmmm about
It is hardly uncommon for charitable foundations not to give away all the money that is put into them. In fact, that's why people set up foundations -- so that they will continue to keep on giving after the originators of the foundation are gone.

Take a look at something like the Soros foundation -- some years it gives out more than is put into it, other years it takes in more than it gives out. Last I looked, it had a "balance" of something like $80 million dollars.

Its hardly unusual that gifts would be smaller in the early years of a foundation, since that's when you are trying to build up the "corpus" of the Foundation. As it is, in 2002, for example, the Foundaiton gave away more than it took in that year, drawing down some of its balance.

6. 'After Clinton declared her candidacy'?
I take your various points about foundations, which are all legitimate, but the timing isn't 100% coincidental if you ask me. I think you'll be seeing a lot of coverage of this next week.

2. Interesting
At least the Obamas donate directly to various causes, including literacy and anti-poverty programs, and their church.

12. See... I gotta say...
I don't really get the whole "foundation" thing... maybe it's cause I've always been either downright poor or working class... but the idea of putting money away to earn interest while charities go wanting... I just do not get that at all.

7. The only family foundation that I personally knew details of
spent/gave away the interest that accumulated on the money and investments in their holdings. That enabled the fund to keep giving instead of being a one-time only giving spree. Using where they put their charitable contributions as a foundation to criticize the Clinton family is bogus.

10. The Clintons had so much generosity they set up foundations to give their money away?

Only McCain supporters should be upset about this huge amount of charity.
