13. I'm not a fan of Randi Rhodes...
...but I am sickened when so-called progressives act like Republicans in supporting measures that chill free speech. The suspension is complete bullshit. Any Democrat who defends this kind of crap deserves to be nomintated for a Karl Rove Award.

16. I'm not either but it is the principle of it that sticks in my craw
Republican radio morons have been getting away with saying any and everything that they have wanted to for years. When they get called on it they accuse liberals/progressives of hate speech or use other "excuses" to change the subject. Not only that but their fans pitch in and rally to their defense. They all end up screaming "free speech" and then claim that the comments were made in jest as part of their entertainment.

When "one of us" gets called on the carpet for comments, there are those amongst us who want heads to roll. Randi's comments were made at a fundraising event, not on her show. And, to my knowledge, Randi is not playing the victim and asking her fans to defend nor has she tried to change the subject. I see no reason why we need to call for her head.

And, unlike the GOPbots, she was actually doing a stand-up routine when she made her comments. She was there to entertain and she did so. She was also there to make some outlandish comments, it is what is expected of her especially in a venue where she is a headliner and it is a fundraiser. That's why people went. I know, RavensChick and I went to see Stephanie Miller last month at a fundraiser for a local radio station. I went expecting to hear Steph make some comments that she couldn't/wouldn't say on her radio show. That's the way these things work. People go expecting to hear something they wouldn't hear on the radio shows.

I admit that I listen to Randi now and again. I'm not someone who tunes in on a regular basis and I wouldn't consider myself a fan. However, Randi doesn't deserve a lot of the comments she has been receiving. Yes, she's loud. Yes, she goes off on tangents that don't make a lot of a sense. Yes, she has made me cringe. But, all in all, it is part of her schtick. It is what makes her Randi and endears her to a lot of people. To call for her head or to wish her the worst isn't what I would hope from my fellow liberal/progressives.

Thank you for that. It meant alot to hear from someone who was there.

It's not very pretty. Nor are the listener calls, every call so far is from an outraged caller standing up for Randi and free speech.

UPDATE: Air America Suspends Randi Rhodes
Full Event Footage, The Facts & Updates

UPDATE: We are now featuring the video of Green960's Randi Rhodes event in it's entirety.

Since many have already seen a shortened version on YouTube & since FOX is spinning it, we feel it is important for the event to be seen in it's entirety with the facts

nearby.

Click Here to Watch the Video

Comments made by Randi Rhodes were made during a Green 960 Event on March 22nd. Those in attendance were required to sign up through Green960.com and

paid $5 to attend. Money raised went to Green960.

This event took place at Broadway Studios in San Francisco on a Saturday, March 22nd.

Green960's event was posted on My.BarackObama.com's event listings by a listener of the station as a social meetup & is no way affiliated with Barack Obama's

presidential campaign. The $5 collected was for Green960 AM, KKGN.

The entire video of the event was made available through Green960 to our listeners and Randi Rhodes fans on March 26th.

Air America, not Green960, has suspended Randi Rhodes indefinitely.

http://www.green960.net/cc-common/mainheadlines2.html?feed=213008&article=3493425

HERE IS THE AUDIO LINK WHERE THEY DESCRIBE

THE EVENT AS "CLEARLY A STAND-UP COMEDY ROUTINE", STATE THAT SHE WASN'T APPEARING ON BEHALF OF AIR AMERICA BUT OF GREEN 960 and

discuss other disturbing aspects of this witch hunt. As far as Green960 is concerned, she was on her own time, doing her own thing. They said Clinton "big money types" are behind this.

I'm foing to watch the video now.

Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 11:01 AM by file83
Oh, I'm sorry, you must have taken the word "whore" literally. You poor thing. You thought Randi was implying Hillary was a prostitute! Well, that certainly would be sexist, especially if Hillary was sleeping around (which she isn't!) So, that's why you are so confused!

No, no. Randi was using a "metaphor" to express her opinion of Hillary.

Since you didn't understand the metaphor, I will explain it to you with a simile:

Hillary is like a whore because she takes money to compromise her principles.

Now that I cleared that up you should understand why what Randi Rhodes said was a Political attack, not a Sexist attack.

17. Ah yes, hypocrisy
following the link from Huffington post http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/04/03/air-america-host-suspended-for-calling-clinton-ferraro-fg-whores/

Ferraro said Rhodes should be fired.

“What did they do with Don Imus when he went after the young black team who was playing basketball with kind of the same language? Treat them both the same,” Ferraro told FOX News. “She’s coming at me and Hillary in a … sexist way”

compare and contrast with:

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/12/ferraro-steps-down/

When asked if she had any regrets about what she said, Ferraro replied, "absolutely not."

"I am who I am and I will continue to speak up," she said. She added that she thought it was a shame that the Obama campaign was trying to block her First Amendment rights, and that she felt that was no way to conduct a campaign.

Randi got to where she is because she is a strong, hard-working woman that speaks the truth.

What in the world do you think HRC did to enable Randi to get to where she has gotten?
Do you think every woman in America owes HRC something? Because that would be sad.

Here in reality, there was nothing in Randi's speech that was sexual.

Yeah, until Hillary Clinton came along, there were just a bunch of barefoot, pregnant women. Then Hillary bought them all shoes!

Good thing Hillary got them the vote, trained them for jobs, instilled a sense of self-worth in all those pitiful, barefoot, pregnant women.

Why, Hillary even trained Randi Rhodes to be a broadcaster and got her the job at Air America! And I heard she gave Randi money to cover her rent until she got her first paycheck!

Thank God for Hillary Clinton, otherwise we'd be up to our elbows in barefoot, pregnant women!

Sheesh.

34. are you pretending to be stupid?
Or is this just more example of how you twist and distort in an attempt to attack anything Clinton.

Clinton was one of the first and few women in her law school. She fought the status quo and made it far in her career--a traditional man's career where women were barred. Anytime a woman does that, she paves the way for future generations of women to do the same.

20. I will first say - I don't agree with what Randi Said . . . But
She has a right in this country to say it. She wasn't on the radio or public airwaves. She was in a comedy club doing a stand-up routine. Air America was wrong, just as CBS radio was wrong. Imus never should have been fired. Does anyone remember "Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me!"?? We are so sensitive when it comes to words. We have a first ammendment right in this country to say what we want. It's wrong when the President tries to take this away from us as well as a company like Air America or CBS radio.

I listened to Opie and Anthony on Friday and they are livid about this. They were one of the few guys in the media that stood behind Imus and are now standing behind Randi. They may not believe what she says politically, but they believe in her RIGHT to say it. They were suspended from XM Radio because a guest of theirs said he wanted to rape Condi and Laura. Inapproriate?? Yes, but they didn't say it, a guest did.

So, who says what is correct to say and what isn't correct to say?? You either have the right to say your words or we live in Cuba.

Just my 2 cents - as someone who may now begin to listen to Randi again after she comes back to the radio.

22. To call 50% of your listener's candidate a "fuc*ing whore", is not only unprofessional
but bad for business

Randi Rhodes or for that matter Mike Malloy are not that great. They constantly interrupt their callers, are rude to callers they disagree with, and don't always have their facts straight.

Compare it Sam Seder's style, who I think represent the BEST in the business

Even Ed Schultz, who many destest here allows, all callers to have their say, and both Sam and Ed are very rarely rude to them

Ferraro became a Principal in the Government Relations Practice of Blank Rome on February 1, 2007. Prior to this she was head of the Public Affairs Practice of The Global Consulting Group, an international investor relations and corporate communications firm, where she continues as a Senior Advisor. She is a Board member of Goodrich Petroleum, the National Democratic Institute of International Affairs, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Ferraro had earlier served as president of G&L Strategies, a management consulting firm, and has been connected with many public and private sector organizations, including serving as a director of the former New York Bancorp, Inc., a NYSE-listed company

and the $109 million sellout further proves your point of HRC.

44. We love you MORE, Randi!
Can't wait until the Goddess is back -- hey, maybe I'll even listen to Sirius Left in my car again if she's on there. Podcast for sure. Randi's swipe at a politician -- female or not -- is not at all the same as Imus' comments to college girls playing basketball. HRC and GF put themselves out there for public discourse -- the basketball players did not.

Randi talks over her callers, yes, but she researches, she brings ideas to the airwaves, she has knowledgeable guests. She's funny and I love to listen to her every day.

I'm sorry that AAR had to end this way -- it was a great venture for liberals but at least there are alternatives.

Randi, I hope you're getting a swank new place to broadcast from just a stone's throw from your house in Florida. Just one favor -- can you still keep Chris, Miss Hipple, Eric, and Serge???? We love them, too!!!!
