Look, about this book-bag thing: Who gives a shit? Is the story true? Does it matter?
Folks, let's be honest here: At this point, Hillary would need a minor miracle to get the nomination (and if she can pull it off, more power to her) so this is probably irrelevant anyway but really, a book-bag? Maybe she really did misspeak on this occasion, maybe it was actually a book she threw, maybe she didn't throw anything and just slammed the door instead. Does it really matter? This is as petty as the right-wingers who managed to end Dan Rather's career over an inadequetly sourced document in an otherwise solid story. This is not an issue. If you can find something solid that says Hillary was opposed to what MLK stood for or that she celebrated his murder or even that she wasn't upset by it, then you might have a story.
I've watched that speech. It's not her best performance (although it's not her worst either), what she says is obviously rehearsed (as are all political speeches, the trick is making it look like you're speaking off the cuff) and parts of it are clumsily phrased. Fine but I don't doubt that the gist of what she said, that she heard about Dr. King's murder and was distressed by it, is fundementally true. Whether her memory is slightly off or she's added a folksy touch to an otherwise true story doesn't really matter.

3. Myself, Im ignoring all of it. |

The whole thing is stupid and I dont really care. Having not read the threads though, I thought the whole "is it true?" thing was a joke. If its not, thats even worse.

5. They are quite serious about it. |
|
One person has posted a good 30 or 40 old pictures of 60s students demanding that we point out the bookbags in those pictures.
I honestly think that some people around here and are genuinely mentally ill.

16. your own words on "taking seriosuly": read my intro: it's meant be taken as seriously... |
|
as it is or is not true, meaning if it's not true don't take it seriously (seems pretty straightforward doesn't it?). i found the topic interesting, and pictures even more so, not just whether or not they were relevant to her speech but as (introduced in thread) "general memory lane college life fun." and in my first reply today i gladly took back the insinuation and reiterated that intent originally stated in the thread.
For those of you who respond as if you were the paragon of austerity and prudence but then go on to from a final judgment based on a single and fragmentary impression, why not (besides reading more carefully) go to my journal and form a judgment based on posts that are obviously serious rather than making hasty leaps to conclusions not based on the bigger picture? seems just as narrow-minded, mentally ill (to use QC's words), and childish as you're accusing others of being, if you ask me....

6. I just think it is an odd recollection to recount. |
|
It feels contrived, like someone felt she needed to add an element of anger to the story.
But maybe that is me.
BTW, its my first post on the book bag. I think it is rather a funny thing to be fixed on myself.

15. Your right, by itself it's not important.. |
|
It becomes important because for 2 sides it becomes another story that slips into the Hillary is not good about the truth. For one side it becomes evidence of unfair attacks on their candidate.
