She told questioners she would support stem cell research and end President Bush's "war on science." She would select Supreme Court justices based on their experience, not their ideologies or partisan background. She wants to change federal policy on education because, " "If we don't support and sustain public education, we will not recognize our country."
In her pitch for energy independence, she praised the efforts in Portland and Oregon, saying the community has led the way in green practices and solutions. At the promoting of a supporter, she applauded the genius of Brian McCarthy, a Liberty High student who has been recognized as a pioneer of better solar technology.
After saying that she was fighting a proposed liquified natural gas terminal in Long Island, she invited an Oregon organic farmer up to the stage to talk about her fears about a proposed pipeline through Oregon. She assured the crowd that she would work against attempts by large companies to act without considering state and local governments.
Clinton acknowledged that the campaign for the Democratic nomination has become intense in recent weeks. "That's because the stakes are huge," she said."
