Here's a primary lesson for everyone:
All states are BLUE in a Democratic primary or caucus.

The danger is when they turn RED in the general.

1. That's right.
I've actually seen amateur pundits here claim that Mississippi will be blue because of the huge margin Obama carried the state over Clinton.

Catching my breath...

!!!

2. I have seen posts where people say Barack will win 48 of 50 states.
I almost died choking when I read that one.

3. That only demonstrates how many political novices are posting here these days.
Wonder if they'll throw a tantrum when their predictions don't hold true.

:D

Alaska or Mississippi.

9. there may be some tantrums
but i'm expecting to hear lots of cries about voter fraud, and if he should lose in nov. i expect his supporters to blame it on hillary.

12. They've already started that.
Posts here that if Obama loses, it will be Hillary's fault for "attacking" him during the primary. The political novices that they are, they have no idea what's coming down the Republican pike for him if he's the nominee.

5. i've seen the same thing
said about texas and south carolina. the problem seems to be that because his supporters love him so much they wrongly conclude that everybody else does as well.
earlier today in a thread that had some poll numbers showing a close race in november, i saw somebody post that as soon as the primary was over and the public started seeing the real obama via the media, he would win in a landslide. the media wouldn't dare turn on obama and give mccain a free pass, and every voter in america will make the same effort to be informed as the political activists on this forum.

11. I agree.
They can't understand why the Obama effect that they feel doesn't osmosize (is that a word?) from them to every other American.

7. Does that mean democrats will only win Minnesota?
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 07:08 PM by EmperorHasNoClothes
Because, after all, every state but Minnesota was red in 1984.

Actaully, I'm not even certain what the point of your OP is. Yes, states that have traditionally voted for Republicans will tend to vote for Republicans in this election, but that certainly isn't set in stone, and is certainly no reason to not campaign like hell in every single state.

15. i seem to recall
that the democrats won a couple of presidential elections since then.
so the over the top exaggeration isn't exactly a true barometer. the democrats should contest every state, but obama isn't a favorite anywhere in the south or in any of the solid red states in the west, and to say over and over that he'll win in a landslide is the same as wishful deluded thinking. there's been polling data that show him losing ohio and pennsylvania, polling data isn't gosphel, but ignore it at your own peril.

14. Don't use red state wins to bolster an electability argument for your candidate.
That is the point. There are states democrats will never ever win this election season.

but honestly, is it inconceivable that North Dakota or one of the Carolinas will never go Dem?

I didn't count the one's that haven't voted.

PA is also Blue and hasn't voted yet. I predict two more for Obama.

20. Obama has won more "Blue States"
And he has won more "Red States"

And, for real, many states have the potential to turn in 2008:

Iowa, Virginia, Missouri, Colorado and Florida. Any of those could realistically turn Blue this Fall.
