2. Please don't do that to the DUzys. |
|
The DUzys are hardly evidence that one side has a better sense of humor than the other. Why can't we all enjoy them without them becoming some sort of competition.
BTW< JeffR is openly for Obama, so a little slant is to be expected. Doesn't bother me...I appreciate the humor that's there, as well as the work he does on the DUzys each week.

11. See my post below, Maddy |
|
I posted it without having read your comment.
This issue has been on my mind a lot recently. It wasn't until Obama's speech on race that I became a partisan. Prior to that, I was still in mourning because my preferred candidates had left the race. But yes, I do have a bias, which I try to keep aware of. My limited professional editorial experience instilled that in me, at least.
I'll just be damned glad when Primary Season is over.

I thought the objects in the rear view mirror were sucking much more than they appeared to be? My mistake.

It's generally hard to laugh when you are having your head handed to you on a regular basis.

8. I have some thoughts on that issue, actually. It's complicated. |
|
1) Anecdotal evidence - DU straw polls - indicates the level of support for O vs. H on DU is anywhere from 3-1 to 5-1.
2) I support O, so I'm open to a charge of bias, though I try hard not to let my choice of candidate override what I find funny.
3) Some posters - Maddy McCall and ronnykmarshall come to mind, but there are others - are solid Clintonistas. They're also funny. Pretty consistently.
4) Clinton advocates may not get an entirely fair representation because I have about a half-dozen of them on ignore for really vile things they've posted in serious discussions. If any of them every says anything funny - a long shot, but theoretically possible - I don't and can't know it because I no longer see their posts. (I should add that my ignore list is small, and includes a few people whose candidate support is unknown to me.)
5) Finally, what really is funny to me, across the spectrum of Democrats from centrist to radicals (I'm in the latter category, FWIW), is the utter comic disdain for all things GOP, for the corporate perversion of American culture, the absurdity of life in Bushworld and the dead-end futility of the "conservative" vision of the future.
It's been like walking a knife-edge throughout Primary Season trying not to miss anything funny while still trying to avoid heavy-handed bias. For that matter, ultimately I'm the sort of leftist who began this year supporting Kucinich, and then reluctantly migrated to Edwards, and then reluctantly migrated to Obama. In that sense, maybe I'm still sufficiently objective. and the Clinton camp really is lacking in humor. I don't know.
In other words, I'm not trying to refute your point. Nor do I agree with it.
Geez, maybe I should be a politician.;)

12. As I noted, there is a pronounced leaning toward Obama here. |
|
No doubt, this relates in part to what you mention. By the same token, some of those who have left in the wake of accusations of racism have been, well, let's say indelicate about the issue of race.
But you have a point, certainly.

If Obama succedes in stealing this primary (in part by dienfranchising voters - ESPECIALLY Florida democrats), then:
-IT WILL BE A LOT MORE THAN DU THAT I WILL BE ABANDONING ON ELECTION DAY!

17. Well, uh, what can I say? |
|
Since the OP was concerned with humorlessness on the part of HRC supporters, I guess you make an illustrative point here. Sort of.
I'm a Florida Dem, BTW, and Obama has done nothing of the sort. And if you were being at all honest, you'd admit that. I suspect - call me crazy - that honesty is not your agenda on what will doubtless be your very brief tenure on DU. Thanks so much for weighing in, though. See ya up the internetz, maybe.

I think you've done a great job with the DUzys.
No complaints from my quarter. I just wish people wouldn't use them as evidence that Obama supporters have a better sense of humor than Clinton people.
You keep up the good work! :yourock:
