Remember when the Clinton campaign blasted Obama for saying something positive about Reagan?
Edited on Sun Apr-06-08 02:44 AM by Syrinx
Well, I was just paging through Tom Brokaw's book, Boom! Voices Of The Sixties, and came across an interesting passage beginning at the bottom of page 403.

As for the political climate in America, she (Hillary Clinton) understands that America has historically tilted toward the conservative side, with intermittent periods of what she calls "progressive energy." She also believes that modern conservatives such as Karl Rove are "obsessed" with defeating her.

She prefers the godfather of the modern conservative movement, Ronald Reagan. He was, she says, "a child of the Depression, so he understood it (economic pressures on the working and middle class). When he had those big tax cuts and they went too far, he oversaw the largest tax increase. He could call the Soviet Union the Evil Empire and then negotiate arms-control agreements. He played the balance and the music beautifully."

In 1969, who would have imagined that the Hillary Rodham on the Wellesley commencement stage would find herself thirty-eight years later paying tribute to Ronald Reagan?

I just thought that was interesting.

4. Oh but she must have "misspoke" - Or she has a very short memory - Duh - Excuses Excuses
I can hear her saying she was sleep deprived when she said those things. And she really put some emphasis on it too - "He played the balance and the music beautifully."

:wow:

5. This is an example of one of the chief reasons why I can't support Clinton (unless nominated)
Because I feel I've compiled a wealth of supporting examples sufficient to substantiate my own conclusion, that at the heart of the Clinton campaign is pure, unadulterated politics without a value base. It is a campaign of say anything, do anything, be anything to win. The ultimate value goal of the campaign is winning. Everything else is subordinated to that goal.

Of course every candidate for president has the goal of winning, but not every candidate subordinates all values, all integrity, all decency to that goal. I have lost all trust that Clinton means anything that she ever says. What she says either about herself or her opponent is totally relative to whatever happens to be politically expedient at that time.

Fundamentally, there is nothing I can stand less than that. I am not an ideological purist, and I understand that all candidates have to engage in a certain degree of "politiking" when they run. They all think about what people want to hear and how to win. But not all totally subordinate everything else to that one element. Hillary Clinton and her campaign does.

10. she`s as bad as reagan
i`d say she was a goldwater girl but goldwater was a man of principal. we may not like what he stood for but one had to respect him.

reagan on the other hand changed his principals when he saw it was to his advantage..

6. Karl Rove is a huge supporter of Hillary's candidacy for the nomination.
He knows what all Republicans know - she is the Great Uniter of the Republican party and Indie voters. If she got the nomination, we'd lose in November, no question about it. Thankfully, that isn't going to happen. She can rage all she wants, but her candidacy is finished. It's just hanging around because she doesn't have the decency or the the dedication to the Democratic party to accept that it is over.

after his dad and brother found steady work ronnie became a fdr democrat then after meeting nancy he became that suck-up to the money class as he did in dixon....

hillary has`t a clue about the real ronny reagan..."the child of the depression"

my dad knew him and worked with his dad and brother during the wpa days...

12. No. I don't remember that.
Not surprising, as I'm not a Hillary supporter.

I remember blasting him myself, though, and I'm still disgusted.

didn't actually take place.

13. And when exactly did that happy event happen? Do tell.
As I do not recall Hillary's campaign ever blasting Obama for making positive statements about Reagan.
