Kucinich got 6 national delegates at the WA state CD caucuses
Almost had another from the 3rd CD. Our state coordinator was hooked up by cell phone to all our CD coordinators, and we almost had a deal to get Dean an extra delegate in the 9th in return for a Kucinich delegate in the 3rd. Fell through when the chair in the 3rd called an end to switching before we could get it done.

1st CD Jessica Becket. She is still in high school and has a brother in Iraq. She is on the debate team, which stood her in good stead speaking for Kucinich at the caucus.

2nd CD Larry A. Kalb. He has been active in many different progressive campaigns and issues. He is on the board of Health Care for All. Most crucially, he is one of the handful of people in our very inexperienced campaign who had a clue about the caucus process worked, and shared this knowledge very effectively.

5th CD Diane M. Schmitz. She is in the grants department at Eastern Washington University, and previously taught college English for six years. She is interested in promoting the progressive side of the Democratic party, and runs a listserv in eastern Washington. She has been supporting Kucinich for a long time, and wants to promote the platform locally and nationally.

6th CD Chris Karnes. He is in his mid 20s, and has been a very hard worker in the campaign from the beginning.

7th CD D'Adre Cunningham. She has been in Seattle for 6 years, and is a public defender. She has worked on organizing in a number of political areas locally, but this is the first time she will be doing something nationally.

7th CD James I. Mullins. He is a professor at UW, and a political neophyte. He has done a lot of work on the campaign, travelling to New Hampshire for visibility work and canvassing. He has personally turned out 20,000 CDs of Kucinich speeches, and distributed most of them.

1. Why are you even wasting your time?
Here's the political reality: Kucinich is NOT going to be on the ticket, and it is *extremely* unlikely that he'll get a prime-time speaking slot at the convention. Every minute you spend working for Kucinich's laughable non-campaign is a minute you could have spent working for Kerry, our nominee.

2. No, *here's* the political reality
A lot of us would not support the Democratic Party if it wasn't for DK. As long as Kucinich can stomach the party, we'll also try to hold our noses. But if he bails, or is treated shabbily by the party, we are so out of here.

So, here's the reality. You want our votes? At least treat our favored candidate with respect. You don't think we're important enough for that? Fine, we really can go elsewhere.

9. I believe almost all Kucinich supporters will vote for Kerry.
I sure will. We may seem idealistic to many folks, but we're not stupid.

Bu$h has to go.

10. If Kerry continues our job losses, what good is he.
Edited on Thu Jun-03-04 02:32 AM by cyclezealot
I hope he is serious..Tax penalities is just a bandaid..for bad trade deals...
I fear DK is too agreeable...No, if Kerry does not come around of significant issues, I will follow my own conscience.
Many may not be as adamant as this DK supporter. But, I say the average American is...They do not say the will not vote for Kerry. But, the average uninvolved American who agrees with DK on issues, just will not vote at all.
As of now, Kerry's previous support for NAFTA and the war..I will have a bloody mary on election day and vote for the coward. Working Support for Kerry or take off my DK bumper sticker..No way..
He has to earn my time and money.....So far he is lucky to get my vote.
DK keep trying to influence the party to work for the people. You don't give up.. I won't .For as of now, too many of Kerry's strategic policies are non-solutions.

20. The political reality is that DK is helping the DEMOCRATS
No, he's not running to be Ralph Nader's running mate or defect to the Green Party. He's running to bring those third party voters back into the democratic party. Those who support Kucinich are actually countering the Nader effect that us Kerry supporters are so concerned about.

3. NICE WORK WASHINGTON STATE!
That's EXCELLENT news!!!!

FYI, there are many DK supporters who are currently busting their butts to get his issues addressed by the platform committee. We're collecting one million signatures of party activists and supporters on five different petitions. Also, contrary to what you may have heard from certain anti-DK people at DU (who insist on p!$$!ng on every pro-DK thread posted), Kerry's people are indeed listening to us, and have been very cordial and helpful to Dennis and his supporters.

Senator Mark Dayton (Democrat, and MN's senior senator) even encouraged Kucitizens at the MN State DFL Convention to "light a fire under John Kerry", right after he announced his plan to get the troops out of Iraq ASAP. This is pretty significant, IMHO, considering Dayton was an early supporter of Kerry's in the caucuses.

DK may not have gotten many delegates, but he has much more support in the party than his delegate count shows. And Kerry knows this, too. Contrary to what certain posters say, Kerry cannot win without us, and he knows it.

6. Current DK count is actually at least 66, likely 69, so already tops Clark
Edited on Wed Jun-02-04 10:14 AM by goodhue
The 59.5 is a hard figure from the green papers but does not count all projected delegates. With Washington for instance, presumably the green papers is waiting until this weekend's WA state convention to count DK's WA delegates.

66 is the DK tally from the campaign web site (note the 66 only includes 3 from WA, so does not yet fully reflect eridani's post). Based on eridan's post, DK's count would stand at 69 with Texas and Puerto Rico likely to add more.

Delegates Kucinich has (some numbers are projected for caucus states):

Alaska 7 delegates
American Samoa 1 delegate
Colorado 14 delegates
Hawaii 8 delegates
Maine 6 delegates
Minnesota 9 delegates
North Carolina 4 delegates
Ohio 4 delegates
Oregon 8 delegates
Washington 3 delegates
Superdelegates 2 delegates
TOTAL 66 DELEGATES

Texas and Puerto Rico may still add some additional Kucinich delegates through their convention processes.

12. They have a tough road ahead of them..
but as long as they stick together, cast their convention votes for Kucinich, and show unbending support for the needed changes in the party platform..our party will have greater unity and Kerry shall be nominated with more loyal support.

16. I met Jessica Becket friday night!

I was with my wife, Geniph,(she's the Kerry alternate from the 8th CD) at the State Democratic convention. We were in the Ron Sims hospitality suite, and got an opportunity to chat with Jessica for about a half hour. I was very impressed, she's a smart young lady! Seeing young people like her involved at this level gives me hope for the future of this country.

21. And now there are seven!

Dear friends,

The caucus process has now closed for the state of Washington for 2004. In case you have not heard, we are proudly sending a total of 7 delegates and one alternate to the Democratic National Convention in Boston at the end of July.

Here is what happened at the State Convention yesterday:

We came in with 6 national delegates (12% of the total) and thus did not reach the required threshold of 15% of the statewide delegation to qualify for a portion of the 17 At-Large delegates that were to be voted on by the national delegates.

However, Paul Berendt, chair of the Washington State Democrats, was able nominate people for two additional At-Large positions. He nominated two fine gentlemen supporters of Dennis Kucinich to serve - Wes Hamilton and David Trotter. Wes won the ballot and was seated as a National delegate.

In addition, the Kucinich delegation was asked to elect one female alternate to the National convention. Nine wonderful women gave tremendous speeches and the voting delegation (our 7 national delegates) had a very hard time deciding how to vote. In the end, we voted and Dian Ferguson, Coordinator for the 37th LD Democrats, and very articulate, determined, hard working and knowledgeable supporter of Dennis Kucinich, was elected.

Heartfelt congratulations to these two very deserving people!

Our next task is to raise funds to get as many of these fine people, both those that were elected and those we were unable to elect in an official capacity, to Boston!

It has (and I hope will continue to be) my great honor to work with all of you - on to Boston, and well, well beyond!

Jim Mullins
