America Already Is America (Stalinist Roots to Kerry's New Slogan)

America Already Is America
The Stalinist roots of John Kerry's new slogan.

Who does he think he's foolin'?

In the June 1 New York Times, David M. Halbfinger reports that the Kerry campaign thinks it's found a winning slogan in "Let America be America again." They couldn't be more wrong....>>

1. Compare Kerry to Stalin, no problem - compare Bush to Hitler is treason!
Fuck the media.

3. not to nitpick
but the article didn't compare Kerry to Stalin - it talked about the roots of this poem being a positive commentary on communism.

6. If someone compared or connected Bush's speech or slogan to Hitler's
What would be the response from the right wing?

They would be calling for resignations and apologies. They do not make exceptions for comparing speeches and slogans and directly comparing the candidate.

2. I know lots will disagree,
but I think the slogan is awful. It's wishy washy and weak sounding - not what we need. I also agree with the Slate author that it isn't Langston Hughes best.

I also recognize that Kerry isn't trying to reach me with that slogan - but who IS he trying to reach?

4. I am not a fan of the slogan either
But when is the last time the media compared something Bush did to Stalin, even though there are probably many opportunities?

7. This guy's nuts
"He'll inherit Bush's America, which is badly in need of repair. It will be Kerry's job to fix it."

Well duh, that's the whole point. America isn't America because Bush has screwed it up so badly. It isn't my fault or Michael Moore's fault, it's Bush's fault. What a nutjob.

8. Just the annoying yappings
of another little repug lapdog looking for a shock factor with a headline. Most freepers wont get past the big print to see that there's no other real mention of Stalin in the article, just communism.

11. "Homeland Security" sounds like "Fatherland Security" (Nazi)
or "Motherland Security" (Communist)

That's why I never cottoned to the term.
