Raising the roof: Crowd at Obama rally shows its passion through screams, tears

Missoula roared Saturday morning for U.S. Sen. Barack Obama. In the Adams Center, Montanans shook their collective booty, held up their babies and even wept for a presidential candidate they believe will restore the American Dream in their towns and integrity to the White House.

“He inspires hope in people. That's what I want for myself and future generations,” said Tim Healzer of Missoula.

A handful of folks said they hadn't yet decided whether to back Obama or Clinton. After the 50-minute speech, though, one woman said Obama changed her mind.

Junell Gill, who is visiting family in Missoula, was a Clinton supporter until she heard Obama talk in person.

“He was just very, very inspiring, and very convincing with his convictions,” said Gill, of California.

Many people left the arena quickly after Obama did, but one man was so moved by the possibility of hope and change that he sat quietly in the stands and cried.

Doug Frandsen said Obama represents hope that there's something better for this country. The Missoula man said Obama is charismatic, but it isn't his charisma that speaks to him. It's his message.

“I don't think I've experienced anything quite like it. I thought the Rolling Stones was good. This is better,” Frandsen said.

1. People are excited about a candidate? That's awful.
It's much better to be bored and not give a shit.

3. You'd think that, wouldn't you, from some of the posts around here.
I like the stories of the people who change candidates after they see and hear Obama. That's another reason why his fabulous ground game has been so important. Thanks to Dr. Dean for that, too.

5. So obvious, yet counter-intuitive to many strategists
You mean that by talking with people in red states gives us the possibility of turning them blue?

What a novel idea!

Clinton could fire Penn and pay us 10% of his salary and we could turn her into a candidate worth voting for. I swear, some of these highly paid consultants don't know what the hell they're doing.

12. But their "advice" keeps them on the payroll
Think about it, if they steered her in the right direction and she actually took their advice, she wouldn't need ALL those consultant companies and they would be out of a job.
Why work your way OUT of a job when you can let someone go out and look the fool so she comes running back to you (with your fee in hand) begging for your help?

4. Obama excites large audiences.
He's a winner.

What's her name is a whiner who can barely keep an audience from falling asleep.

11. I just watched Clinton's Missoula event on CNN live
What a difference. Compared to the Obama town hall I attended two weeks ago, it looked like a funeral. There no passion but there were a lot of unenthusiastic faces. If anyone thinks she is going to win over independents and moderate Republicans when she cannot even excite her own party they are delusional. A Clinton presidency would just be round two of the the Clintons vs. everyone else.

15. But she does this thing where she spreads out her arm when she speaks...her drama coach must've
taught her that. And she also learned to put her hand on her heart like she really feels it. Shouldn't all that count for something? :D
