REVELATION: Most of the Clinton supporters here..

Do not effectively fall into a stereo type and neither do the Obama supporters.

Anyone using this line of logic is falling into the same small minded thinking that forces people to say things like:

Most black people cant....
Most Women cant....

No matter what your excuse, if your in this boat, your insulting to the entire group and your a fool.

If your intent is to insult the entire group, your a fool and your the 21st century bigot.

6. Avoiding false dichotomies: two things you are TOLD are mutually exclusive, either-this-or-that
Flase dichotomies are oversimplifications, especially in reference to MOST human beings. Humans are not static objects, either this-or-that; rather they are active verbs. Variation is the norm, within a range of 50:50 characteristics (however you've defined those) about 50 % of the time, with some more rare extreme behaviors a minor fraction of the time - which, BTW, you can't discount without looking at the context in which extreme, unusual, or "unique" behaviors occur.

Dont' mistake words, especially trite prosaic usages, for the organic phenomena that any words, and numbers, only refer to.

32. ah yes, i completley agree
the sense that disagreement with a given point somehow infers total acceptance of the contrary is, in my opinion, demagoguery.

Corrolary: not all detractors of one are supporters of another
nor are they necessarily out to "get" the one they deride.

The endless folly of the human race to force complex realities into simple, binary rigitity is tiresome, to say the least.

Somehow we're stuck with one of these two as our standard-bearer, and we owe it to ourselves to figure out which one has the best chance in the general election. I rankle at the suggestions that either is much more noble or moral than the other; they're both quite tainted, yet they both more or less stand on the "good" side of things, and those who demand fealty to some fantasy of steadfast saintliness do none of us any good.

We have to win a general election, and that means two things: offense and defense; ignoring weaknesses or missteps is not a voice of unity or respect, it's a childish fear of being "found out", and that's a luxury we simply can't grant ourselves.

It's not "cogito" ergo sum; it's I'm Free, therefore I am. (That is if Descartes doesn't mind my extrapolations.)

4. Epic fail. Grounds: idiotic incoherence...
... Comparing primary season squabbles to racism and sexism tout court. Not knowing how to use an apostrophe. Just the typical American failure of thinking that everyone else is as stupid as oneself is.

10. yet you end your sentence with a preposition.
Nice,

Its is logical and reasonable to compare the tact and acrimony used in the primary season to sexism and racism. If you would provide reason for your stance ill be happy to discuss. If, instead, you choose to simply be contrary, ill be happy to engage in that as well.

17. "is" in this usage is a "be" verb
Which is the same as a preposition. Regardless, its against grammatical rules to end a sentence in "is" (no matter how you define it)

18. P.S. BTW, ending one's sentences with a preposition is quite acceptable, logically,
Edited on Sun Apr-06-08 03:16 PM by patrice
in Germanic-based languages, which English definitely is.

What does the suspect preposition have to do with the semantic question?

On edit: correction from plural possessive to singular.

24. P.P.S. That old rule about no prepositions on the ends of sentences is a holdover from
Latin and SOME elitist influences associated with the Catholic Church.

in english, it is applicable if the object of the preposition is detached from the object.

31. And going through great contortions to get the preposition and it's object
back together is not a good idea. Anything that affects meaning too much can be adjusted, but not completely forgotten, because there are situations in which it IS better to keep the two together.

29. "offen-"sive? Obnoxious yes! Just like "ax" for "ask" or "reefer" for "refrigerator", but NOT
offensive = I don't take it personally, which characteristic is essential to "offense" - to me anyway.
