Democratic Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign delivered a double on Tuesday, announcing new television commercials in Maine and 18 other targeted states and releasing a report with a state-by-state breakdown of possible spending cuts if President Bush is re-elected.
The campaign says that Maine will lose $4 million for veterans, $4 million for homeland security and $7 million for education. It also contends that 107 Maine children will be cut from Head Start and that 564 Maine mothers will be cut from the Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Plan under a Bush administration proposal.
The campaign based its numbers and its argument - that the Bush administration plans significant spending cuts in 2006 - on an administration memo.
