Clinton Invokes Female Trailblazer

By BETH FOUHY – 55 minutes ago

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton laid claim Sunday to Montana's famed female trailblazer — Jeannette Rankin, who in 1916 became the first woman ever elected to Congress.

"Remember, Jeannette Rankin was elected before women could vote. So who says men don't vote for a woman?" Clinton told an audience crowded into an airport hangar here.

(snip)

In another nod to her status as the only woman candidate in the field, Clinton noted it took her more time than her male counterparts to prepare for a day on the campaign trail.

"Do you realize how much longer it takes for me to get ready than my opponents?" Clinton said. "I think I should get points for what I do, plus having to spend so much time getting ready."

For example... what was she thinking when she voted to authorize the war? Thanks in advance!

But that ruins your little "story" now, doesn't it?

And if you are so small minded that you can get all shitty and shirty about that lighthearted comment, you really are grasping for any reason to fling shit.

Politics of Hope and Change, my ass. More like politics of childishness and stupidity.

You REALLY do your candidate "proud" with that kind of post. It's a keeper as an example of the OPPOSITE of "Change We Can Believe In!"

44. Love the way the "Change We Can Believe In" has infected y'all.
I never said jackshit about the "Sweetie" imbroglio--so why are you crying to ME about it? Why not take it up with those who actually said something that bothered you? On the threads that addressed the issue, instead of playing the "start a pissy thread in response" game? Hmmmmm?

That's your "excuse" for posting this crap, really?

Why, if your "schtick" really is "Hope" and "Change" do you put forth a bullshit "two wrongs make a right" post? It makes you look very small and petty.

Why do you misrepresent her words? Misrepresent is a nice way of saying "not tell the truth" you know.

If you have a problem with the "Sweetie" people, take it up with them. Don't change READY to PRETTY and then start carping about what the Senator said, with a goal towards denigrating her and changing the meaning of her words and suggesting that her comments were anything more than lighthearted.

That's not "change" anyone can believe in. That's the shitty act of someone with no game, who can't be bothered to spread his candidate's message, and who wants to win by shitting on the opposition over STUPID stuff.

Fired up! Ready to GO :hurts: !!! Indeed. :eyes:

129. Sweetie. Im not the one crying.
Unlike your "girl", its not my thing. Actually I was laughing at how easily some of you Clintonists spaz out over something so ridiculous. Thanks for making my point.

And you can play semantics with what your girl said all you want. But lets not pretend "ready" doesnt have anything to do with pretty. I guess she spends all that extra time to do other thing those big bad men dont do. Such as: Uh.... Hmmmm. You let me know what that is.

Oh.. and by the way. This freakish thing about throwing Obama's slogans into his supporters faces? It doesnt work.

You might not realize this but... Im not Obama. And those are not my slogans. I'm a little better off intellectually than to have to adopt a campaign slogan as my own personal mantra.

And furthermore... You, of all people, really shouldnt be handing out lectures on being nice.

53. Define 'getting ready,' then.
Does it mean it takes her longer to study the issues?

Does it mean it takes her longer to memorize talking points?

Longer to read campaign briefs? Longer to walk up the stairs of the campaign jet or get on the bus?

Maybe you oughta just stay with 'getting pretty.' The other alternatives don't speak well to her even being a candidate.

You qualified 'getting ready.'

Now define it. C'mon, you can do it.

Or you can continue with your rants full of "quotation marks" and CAPS that say absolutely nothing.

If all you have is unfocused rage, fine. Just say so.

Or define 'getting ready.' Up to you.

92. Dodge, my ass. Does Obama wear makeup? How long does it take him
to comb and arrange his hair, do you suppose? Think he grabs one of those curling irons, blow dryers and uses the hairspray on his flowing locks, hmmmm? How about all the time he has to take to put on his brassiere and girdle, and pantihose/stockings, or what have you? Maybe he wears a more complex "foundation garment" I believe they're called?

You've obviously never had the company of a woman for any substantial period of time, if you can be so fucking obtuse as to not understand the mechanics of their clothing. Did you grow up at a logging camp, or something? It's not shower, shave, skivvies, shirt, tie, socks, shoes, suit and out the door for the ladies. Their stuff is a bit more complicated. And then, there's the jewelry--I never really noticed Obama's earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and rings much--say, are his ears pierced, or does he use those clip on earrings?

If anyone has a rage and rant problem, it's you.... My Little Pretty.

You're just so ANGRY about Senator Clinton's hair, makeup and clothing, annoyed and combative at the possibility that it might take her LONGER to get dressed--why, I have no idea...but it's so important to you that you're compelled to make a federal case out of it.

Fired up, are ya? Ready to GO?? :hurts:

12. she compared herself to Rankin? To Rankin?
:nuke: :nuke: :nuke:

Does everybody not know the other distinction of Jeanette Rankin?

Everybody?

She was the only person in Congress who voted AGAINST American entry into WWI and WWII.

Jeanette Rankin voted even against what I would consider a just and necessary war - WWII. And Hillary compares herself to Rankin?

If Hillary knew anything about Rankin, or cared about what Rankin stood for, she would have opposed the Iraq war.

Here's my favorite Rankin quote:

"You can no more win a war, than you can win an earthquake."

You're not getting out of this one so easy.

First off, if I were to make an educated guess (20 years in theater plus a cosmetology degree) if Barack Obama wears make-up, it would be for television appearances. I bet ten to one, all he needs is powder to quash the shine from the lights.

Your implication is that the man wears make-up 24/7. Personally I have no problem with that but apparently you do or you wouldn't have made that crack in the first place.

Why do you play these games? How can you cry "sexism" one one thread and not see the sexism in your own words?

Do you understand the benefits of a high melanin content? The skin does not age as quickly and the tone looks good under even studio lights. Barack Obama does not need makeup.

The "big fucking deal" is your crack. You throw it out there and think it will go unnoticed. Well, I noticed.

Now, tell me, do you not see the sexism in your crack?

36. I have got to gets these Obama rules down.
Rule 1. Now, it is ok to call a woman "sweety" as it is not sexist at all. But it is not ok to mention the fact that she has to take longer to get ready in our society because of what women have to wear. Any mention of her gender by her is OFF LIMITS at it is using sex to gain votes.

Rule 2. It is not ok for ANYONE to mention that Obama is black, but it IS ok for Obama to use his race to gain votes.

Dang, I guess the easy version of the ObamaRules: anything Clinton does or says is evil. Anything Obama does or says it awesome.

Got it.

There would be hell to pay in the M$M, with HRC leading the pack.

We don't want someone "ready" w/ their looks, HRC, we want someone READY to fix the problems that we are about to inherit from the current regime.

I guess since that whole race card thing didn't pan out for her she now has moved on to battle of the sexs and the "but, I'm a GIRL....".

And she can all the "points" she wants...she can have all the points and Obama gets all the delegates. Surprised she didn't do a Freudian slip and say "get more deleg-, ah, points"

"Remember, Jeannette Rankin was elected before women could vote."

Women could vote in Montana in 1914, in part due to Rankin's efforts.

Two years later in 1916, Rankin was elected by Montana.

Four years after that, in 1920, the Nineteenth amendment was ratified.

Hillary's no supporter of Women's rights, she doesn't even appear to know the basic minimal facts about them.

She was joking... it's obvious... and picking at every little perceived blemish until it bleeds, then picking at the scab till that bleeds (rinse, repeat) benefits no one. My comment also applies equally to 'sweetie-gate', 'baby/punishment-gate', 'pastor-gate', and 'the great bowling crisis' - it's not a partisan statement, as I have no dog in this fight any longer.

One or two flubs are forgettable. Chronic behavioral attributes speaks about her character.

Yeah, she was just joking about being a racist when it came to convenience stores, she was just joking about being a war hero, she was just illustrating a point by passing on a lie about a hospital, she was just being jovial about making cookies.

Just like Limpbaugh and O'Reilly are "just joking".

I think it's good for people to decide whether or not they want the "humor" of a radio talk show host in their President.

111. She seemed to be poking fun at
herself and it appears to have been an offhand comment or casual remark taken out of context and blown out of all proportion. The same thing has been done, ad nauseum, to casual or unrehearsed comments made by Obama or his staff members. It's unlikely to win any points with the undecided voter, and would tend to have the effect of causing the partisans of your opponent to dig in even harder.

The scab-picking is just a poor strategy for winning new supporters for either of the two candidates, IMO.

The comments made (yes, in this thread) on her attempt to compare herself to a prominent feminist who helped women win the right to vote are far more useful, because they are less likely to appear to be petty, small-minded and mean-spirited and more likely to be taken seriously by people who haven't chosen between the two yet.

It's the difference in focus that I'm talking about. One type of attack will only win you new enemies, the other may be seen as fair criticism by all but her most ardent supporters (who you aren't going to get anyway).
