Repub Strategist: Rice eyeing VP spot on ticket

Strategist: Rice eyeing VP spot on ticket

WASHINGTON, April 6 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has exhibited interest in becoming John McCain's vice presidential running mate, a Republican strategist says.

Dan Senor revealed during Sunday's edition of ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that Rice has been seeking support to be considered for the No. 2 spot on the Republican ticket this fall.

"Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this," Senor said.

The party strategist said Rice could represent an ideal vice presidential candidate when paired with the Arizona senator, who is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

"What the McCain campaign has to consider is whether or not they want to pick a total outsider, a fresh face, someone a lot younger than him, a governor who people aren't that familiar with," Senor said. "The challenge they're realizing is that they'll have to have to spend 30-45 days, which they won't have at that point, educating the American public about who this person is.

"The other category is someone who people instantly say, the second they see that announcement, I get it, that person could be president tomorrow. Condi Rice is an option."

1. Yes! Run Condi run!
I cannot wait to see her having to answer questions about 9-11 and Iraq during debates.

2. Looks like Condoleezza has the bug too.
It is not good when people with proven bad judgment but with nice resumes and experience get that bug up their butt.

5. I cannot see Condi adding any votes for McCain. She will definitely remind everyone that McCain
is Bush III. And the hard core conservatives do not like her. It doesn't add up.

9. OH OH...I hope not...Rice would drain some of the Black Vote...I said this before
and I say it again....every bit of drain on us ...is what they are looking for...

They often float stories like this to gauge reaction...including coming to us here at DU..

Will it really happen...? I think not...even if this was their best shot...there is the section of the GOP who are not color blind which would prevent uch a venture.

But ya never know....this can be the deciding factor

12. Why just the Black vote? Why not some of the women as well?
I mean, if we're going to make assumptions about monolithic voting blocs. :eyes:

25. Their backs are to the Wall....the Pubs have very little choice but to gamble
peeps like Rice and others...

I have learned to be very cautious when predicting the Pubs and their paths.

In this year...weakened but not out...they will go all out with all they got.... just to keep the end result close...sit back and snipe the Dems no end...that is, if we win....until 2010 and 2012

26. And drive away the racists vote
Do you really believe that Condi Rice would pick up any of the black vote? She would most likely get the votes of the disaffected Hillary supporters, who will somehow convince themselves that they are voting for woman empowerment, while guaranteeing that probably two supreme court justices will be selected by McCain.

14. I wonder what this would do to the RW racist/sexist vote?
They definitely wouldn't be voting for Obama or Clinton. Would they stay home if their only remaining choice was a ticket that included a black woman?

15. I don't think this would really help MacCain
and it will certainly hurt him with people who have race and gender issues which would be most GOP supporters.

17. Condi Will Fuck Axelrod's Strategy All To Hell
Edited on Sun Apr-06-08 07:27 PM by Crisco
Everytime BHO's campaign or supporters cry "racism!" Condi will be there to counter it. In that case, they will no longer be able to use race to make Obama untouchable.
