Carville said it best
"It's the economy, stupid".

That was true in 1992 and it's even truer today. I've said it here before and I'll say it again: Barring the extraordinary, this isn't going to be a national security election or a war election, it's going to be the economy sucks election.

And that's why the democratic nominee will beat John "don't know much about the economy" McCain.

The electorate much prefers democrats to repukes when it comes to the economy, but in past couple of elections, the economy hasn't been the top concern for most voters. It's certainly going to be this year. Food prices are pinching middle class budgets, as are gas prices and home heating fuel. And the hapless bush tax cuts, which McCain now strongly supports, aren't doing jackshit for working people. Healthcare costs and the price of higher education are also straining resources.

And all of the above are going to be worse in November.

Now, sure as I'm typing this someone will bring up the fact that working class people often vote against their interests. True enough, but this is a singular year as far as the economy is concerned and though there will be people voting against their economic interests, I don't think there will be nearly enough of them to put McCain in the White House.

Either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama will be sitting in the Oval Office come January 20th, 2009.

4. That's idiotic
but it does come from you, so.....

When people worry that they can't feed their families, heat their homes or fill the tanks in their vehicles, those things are what voters will have on their minds as they enter the voting booth- not that Barack Obama is black.

Your continuous bigoted posts regarding Obama and race are disgusting.

6. Can an openly gay person win? A Scientologist? A Muslim?
The Republicans couldn't have invented an easier candidate to beat than Hillary's empty suited opponent.

9. Yeah, the Republicans were dreading running against Hillary - with over half the country hating her
It'd be SO hard to get people to choose the likable John McCain over the unlikable Hillary Clinton. That must be why Republican bigwigs are shilling for her and/or attacking Obama on various cable news shows and talk radio (Buchanan, Scarborough, Limbaugh, etc.)

16. Women are at least a majority, a supermajority if you add gays
That's why it was so important to the powers that be to defeat Hillary in the primary by swiftboating her on race. If Hillary's opponent is the nominee, it will be blacks vs whites and it won't be a game.

15. "Why do people vote against their own best interests?"
That's one of the big mysteries for Democrats is why working class whites consistently vote against what liberals think should be their best interests. The reason usually is races.

20. Yep, it's seen as the "pro-black" party in the South and is unelectable
Soon, the Democratic party will be seen that way in the mid-Atlantic states and the midwest, more interested in race games than doing anything to help the white working class.

11. I have no idea where you are living but that is bunk
Working class people in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and other states where manufacturing has been the main stay for employment will not see Obama as the saviour, but the devil. These people, (a mixture of races)have been in competition with each other for decades for jobs. Many times a white person has seen a black person get a job because of affirmative action. When there are plenty of jobs, it doesn't matter. When there is a lack of jobs, it matters a lot. They are fighting for survival. Most will see Obama as the enemy because he "may" give preference to black people. He "could" change laws that will put them at a disadvantage. Whether or not he will do this does not matter, the chance that he would, is what will turn these states against him.

Ever wonder why people vote against their own best interests? It's because dems have always been seen as giving away money to people with their hand out, and repubs have always been the pull yourself up by your bootstraps party. The stereotypical black person has always been one who has lived 3 generations on welfare, and doesn't want to work, or they are gang bangers, or drug dealers, or prostitutes or any other low life. The fact that this isn't true, does not take away the fact that some people will believe it. And those who are most prone to believe it are those who are in competition for the very jobs that a person of color could take away from them.

What dems fail to understand is that most people are not afraid of McCain. He has been getting a free ride in the press and will continue to do so, up until November. Our candidate will not have that luxury, and he/she will be painted as the devil incarnate. Perception matters, especially to those who do not pay close attention to politics.

13. how interesting that you feel so entitled that you think you can
Edited on Mon Apr-07-08 08:46 AM by cali
speak for working class people. Grab a fucking clue. You can't.

And your post is about justifying your own apparent bias. Voting so far clearly indicates that most voters don't see Obama as the enemy because he's black.

The fact still remains that the electorate trusts dems more than repugs on the economy by a large margin. The fact still remains that the economy is in bad shape and that it's the number one concern for most.

Oh, and dems haven't even begun to frame McCain.

*I live in a poor rural area. Dems here voted for Obama in the primary.

14. You live in a poor rural area?
Please, you grew up in a 4000 square foot house. What would you know about poor rural? My sister lives in a poor rural area, her house is probably less than 700 square feet. She works in a convenience store, no one there has any use for Obama.

I grew up in Detroit. I worked side by side with black people. I saw how they were treated. And, I also saw how white people resented it when they were pushed aside so a black person could be promoted. My mother still lives in Detroit, and people there hate their black mayor so much that he is now being brought down by something that should have been no one's business.

I live in a United Nations neighborhood, near Syracuse University. These are working class people, they don't give two hoots about Clinton, Obama or McCain. They are worrying about where their next meal is coming from or if they can make their rent money. Whoever comes off as the lesser of all the evils will get their vote, and with the way the MSM news media is covering McCain, it just might be him.

The dems really framed Bush, didn't they? Oh, I can't wait until McCain gets his. :sarcasm: Please, get out more, or at least stop drinking the kool-aid.

8. The hate is strong with you. You can't even type "Obama"
much less even dis him with "Barry" or "Barrie". I don't support Hillary, but I can at least refer to her by her name. He must have really pissed in your cornflakes by running a winning campaign that you can barely acknowledge his existence.

23. I don't think either Democratic campaign should be dusting off that chestnut.
It's true, of course, but the dismal record of Congress ought to prevent any sitting Senator from making much hay with it.
