5. Kerry: "No draft" "Absolutely Unnecessary". Bush: $28 mil gears up DRAFT!
Kerry's NO-DRAFT plan is to raise 40,000 additional troops and avoid reinstatement of the draft is added up this way:

1. Move some paper-pushers to combat (lots of potential there)
2. Increase enlistment with real scholarships and pay raises
3. Let troops know Special Ops will hunt al-Queda, no more invasions needed, so re-up rate goes up. "Primarily a law enforcement effort, not a full military effort", say JK.
4. Start a "Civilian Stability Corps" that would help in reconstructing Afghanistan and Iraq and relieve military pressure.
5. GET FOREIGN TROOPS TO COME INTO INSTEAD OF LEAVE IRAQ!!

http://www.candidatemap.com

"...I propose that we enlist thousands of them in a Civilian Stability Corps, a reserve organization of volunteers ready to help win the peace in troubled places. Like military reservists, they will have peacetime jobs; but in times of national need, they will be called into service to restore roads, renovate schools, open hospitals, repair power systems, draft a constitution, or build a police force. A Civilian Stability Corps can bring the best of America to the worst of the world—and reduce pressure on the military."
< Source: Kerry, John. "Protecting Our Military Families in Times of War: A Military Family Bill of Rights." March 17, 2004. http://johnkerry.com/pressroom/speeches/spc_2004_0317.html >

With this NO-DRAFT PLAN, Kerry will not have to resort to conscription, even after Bush screwed the whole thing up.

From STOPTHEDRAFT.COM

http://technologyreports.net/stopthedraft/?articleID=2550

What do a former fighter pilot in the National Guard and a former officer in the Navy have in common? Both have promised not to reinstate the military draft if elected president.

Senator John Kerry has promised that if elected president he will not reinstate the military draft, but will increase troop numbers by 40,000.

President Bush and his staff have also promised the American public that there are no plans to reinstate the military draft.

-snip-

John Kerry wants to deploy 40,000 more troops to Iraq and finish the job quickly. Yet when asked how he would do it, he said that a draft is not needed and people will enlist. This approach seems rather naïve and overly optimistic.

To his advantage, however, Senator Kerry was an anti-war activist after serving his duties as a Navy officer in the Vietnam War and knows first-hand the pitfalls of the military draft.

-snip-

BUSH '04 = DRAFT '05
KERRY '04 = PNAC OUT THE DOOR!

12. Do you have a link to support that this is official Kerry policy?
And please don't link that vague statement by some general.

13. Kerry should speak about this
If Kerry promised that he would not re-enlist the draft, he could ask Bush what his feelings on the draft are.

20. Kerry said NO DRAFT when asked by 130 College Editors
He has outlined a plan to avoid having to conscript, most of all that al-Queda is now mostly a law enforcement problem, except in Iraq and Pakistan and Afghanistan. There he wants to double the size of Special Ops and take out al-Queda with them.

Kerry also said in early June that the DRAFT will be ABSOLUTELY UNNECESSARY to a high school in Wisconsin.

The DRAFT is really needed by Bush because, as Wes revealed, the next 6 countries on the PNAC list are Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Somalia and Iran and then Libya, 'cept they recently caved.

and he said if Bush is re-elected, there WILL be a draft. That's what made me start to believe it for sure rather than just as a possibility. I hope Nader voters keep that in mind.

So much for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness!

Now it's death, imprisonment, and the pursuit of always more terrorists.

S 89 and HR 163 haven't recieved so much as a committee hearing. If they move any closer there would be something worth reporting.

9. They won't pass
Just because some congressman proposed a bill, doesn't mean it will pass. Congressman Rangel and his few allies and Senator Hollings have proposed the bill and pretty much nobody is supporting it. There was media coverage when it was proposed but nothing has happened to the bill so why would the media cover it? This thing on congress.org was started by some supporter of the libertarian and constitution parties who is trying to install fear in voters' minds so they will oppose the democrats and republicans.

Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 02:04 PM by CO Liberal
It was e-mailed to Ben Nightmare Campbell, Wayne Dullard, and Scott McPinhead:

How clever of you Republicans to sneak this legislation through to reinstate the draft AFTER the November elections!!! I can understand Campbell and McIniss - you're both retiring, and have nothing to lose. But there's no excuse for you, Allard.

Kill this bill, and kill it QUICK!!!!

A Life-Long Democrat,
(my name)

15. Funny

The draft bills are Democrat legislation. Unless Hollings and Rangel crossed party lines.

Things like these bills are making me lose party faith.

17. It's a stunt
They are saying "Draft" because its a way of getting the average American to wake up and not provide knee-jerk war support. "No one is sending *my* boy to die!"

They aren't serious bills.

They are both sponsered by Democrats who voted against the Iraq war. Its typical election year politicking and nobody is falling for it.
