Clinton campaign chair photographed holding Obama signs
Wow Hillary is going to kick Terry McAuliffe butt for these pics

Terry McAuliffe, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee and now-chairman of Senator Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, has been mysteriously caught in three photographs smiling and holding an Obama for president sign with supporters in Washington state.

The photos were acquired by the Chicago Tribune's Swamp blog.

"What's really interesting, as you can see from these photos, is that McAuliffe posed with supporters of Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign and that a beaming McAuliffe helped them hold up their large Obama signs for the camera," Swamp author Frank James wrote Monday morning. "McAuliffe is wearing his Clinton button but it's dwarfed by the Obama sign he's holding.

"We don't want to read too much into these photos," he added. "But it's definitely striking to see the chairman of the Clinton campaign smiling broadly into the camera while holding up a campaign poster for Obama with whom Clinton is currently engaged in a fight to the death."

1. Is that for real?
Photoshop? If not, that's just strange, and I don't get the joke...

6. While I don't publish photoshops, I'll give it a thumbs up
If you look at the third photo you can see that the sign is slightly bent at the bottom, and so is the text printed near the bottom. If that were a photoshop job I'd expect it to be perfectly straight, because it would be hard to line it up correctly. It could be done in PS, but if so it was by a real professional who spent time on getting it perfect. I work in film/video and can usually spot visual FX straight away even in a big-budget movie - the lighting never quite matches. It's annoyingly distracting actually :-)

9. I can relate to that...
I used to work for a company that produced 3D animation, and now when I see movies, I
see the process when looking at computer-generated imagery.

I just watched, "I Am Legend" and I noticed this a great deal.

5. I'll defer to Swampy's genius
But off-hand, as someone who has put many hours into photoshop, those aren't fakes. Too subtle. But Mr. Terry might not have been paying attention. He has those glazed eyes that come from posing with a multitude of people who have paid him good money for the privilege. See the same syndrome in sci-fi con photos.

7. Why would he let himself be photographed like that?
I'm wondering if these are for real. I can't see someone who is as big of a Hillary supporter as Terry is letting pictures like that be taken and put online. It doesn't make his support for Hillary look very strong. Oops. :silly:

10. I don't think this is photoshopped.
If it is, it is extraordinary work.

Just look at how the signs are being held and the slight bend that has given the signs. The text and shading on the signs follows that perfectly. That would be very difficult to replicate so flawlessly on photoshop.

I'm no expert, but my boyfriend and I scoured these this morning and this is the conclusion we came up with.

I don't know though, now that I look at it blownup, the edges of that last pic look a little odd. But I do have one of those signs and that is what they look like...

This is just odd.

11. The only thing I could come up with which might indicate photoshopping is in the 3rd pic.
Edited on Mon Apr-07-08 12:40 PM by Poll_Blind

The thin white stripe at the top and lower left-hand corners of the sign. While it's unconvincing to me, it may indicate some sort of tampering. If they're photoshopped, they'd be pretty good ones.

However, you only have to go as far as Fark.com to see how many posess supernatural photoshop skills.

The light reflecting off the signs is very convincing. Also the compression artifacting appears only to be from one pass- as in the compression artifacting in the sign appears to match (I eyeballed it) the compression artifacting around it. A second pass would produce more artifacting from compression in the surrounding, non-sign, image. You can get around that but still...

On the other hand, his Hillary sticker also appears real, right down to a little deformation/wear on the lower left-hand edge of the circle.

I guess my opinion is they're probably real.

I do find it odd that on my cursory inspection of the other elements in the photo that I didn't see ANY other politcal insignia. And what's with/on the overhead projector?

16. Not to mention the fingerprints on the sign in that pic...
The sign has obviously been held.

Overall, it looks real to me. But I wondered about those edges too.

I have one of those signs and if you don't hold it perfectly upright, those edges will show (they are printed on white matte paper).

I can also confirm that these ARE the signs that the campaign is currently using. I picked mine up at an event just last Thursday.

I'm an Obama supporter, and this photo is not authentic. Load it into a picture viewer and zoom in on the fingers.
