The Bob Barr Effect- Map
If Bob Barr teams up with Ron Paul (he's got supporters & $$$), we could win Alaska AND Georgia...making a LOT of the recalcitrant states "unnecessary".. They are welcome to come along, but we would not need to be held "hostage" to their tantrums..

make your own map @

1. why does the map show part of Nebraska red and part blue?
Electors from each state can vote for whomever they please, according to the Constitution. Traditionally, they vote for their party, but this hasn't always been the case. Does Nebraska have some sort of law that allows their electors to be split between the two parties instead of winner take all? How does this jibe with the Constitution?

2. They have 1 EV per district and 2 awarded to the popular winner of the state

Maine does too :)

Obama could peel off 2 votes in the populous areas with very little expenditure of money and with good organization (which he has..both)

3. cool
that is the way it should be nation wide--if we have to have electors at all, that is.

5. That would KILL big states though.. Ahhhnold's trying to do that here
in CA.. Small states are not so much of an issue, but i would certainly NOT want part of CA to be red :)

and it would make campaigning infintely harder with candidates having to kowtow to individual dustricts, instead of statewide.. We'd have NON-stop electioneering 24-7-365-4

12. Theoretically, we could split EVs.
I'm told that Obama might actually put this theory to the test (never been done). Would be SO coooool though.

4. I think Barr can split Texas among Republicans
This is Limbaugh country and these folks would vote for Barr. When bill Clinton won his first term, George H.W. Bush came in 2nd place in my county. Ross Perot was in first place. I think with Barr, we can turn Texas blue.

9. I forgot about Ron Paul
I have a neighbor who has both Ron Paul and Obama signs in his yard. I don't know what's up with that. Anyway, Bob Barr, Ron Paul - they are all welcome to take votes away from McCain.

7. We aren't winning Alaska or Georgia.
That's a pipe dream. Barr doesn't have that much clout.

We won't even come close, either..

8. Ron Paul beat Mccain in Alaska and Alaskans are pretty pissed at
their criminal republican rulers.. It could happen..

Bob's a Georgia-son and many republicans will NEVER "love" Mccain..

This election is the most "unkonwn-quantity" election ever:)

anything "could" happen :)

10. I'm not getting my hopes up
I don't think Barr will be like Perot. Perot had millions of dollars to spend, Barr and the Libertarian party don't. I doubt he (or Nader) will be in any of the debates.

11. he only "needs" to split the republican vote in GA & AK
(and a few others, if he wants to )

he doesn't have to win any states:)

13. Barr alone would draw more than Buchanan in '00
Unfortunately, Ron Paul won't be running with him. That alone would GUARANTEE a Democratic victory in November.
