<The pollster for presidential hopeful John Kerry said Thursday that Colorado and most of the Southwest is up for grabs this year.
“The fundamental point is that Colorado is a battleground state and the Kerry campaign has made a significant investment in Colorado,” Kerry pollster Mark Mellman said. “We think that investment is going to pay off.”
Kerry, who was born in Colorado, will be in Denver on Sunday night and Monday morning. He is expected to address the public Monday morning at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
Mellman said the campaign’s enthusiasm stems from public polls that show Kerry is trailing President George Bush by about 5 percentage points in the Centennial State.
Kerry, a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, will stress economic recovery, job creation and affordable health care in his Denver speeches, Mellman said.>
