The State Of Discourse On DU
What do you think of the discussions on this forum?

I'm of the camp that feels people are taking themselves a bit too seriously. Few, if any, threads here actually sway voters to or from a candidate. Many DUers are too quick to ignore others simply based on disagreements on policy or politicians.

I'm not afraid to laugh at my candidate.
I'm not afraid to be exposed to posts by people I find to be idiots.
And I haven't deluded myself into dreaming of how my posts might swing an election.

I will concede though that I was part of an entirely different school of thought not so long ago when I perceived some serious unfairness on the part of some here.

1. Why do you get to be the arbiter on what constitutes

overreaction?

I realize you're entitled to your opinion, but your post is structured as though because you feel a certain way, others must be taking themselves to seriously.

The fact is there has been some very vicious, uncalled for dialog.

I don't have a problem with the debate about various issues regarding the candidates.

But I do have a problem with the gloating, nicknames and passive aggressive behavior from *some* people who think they've very slick.

on edit....typo

2. You've never posted one constructive post at DU.
Even this one is flamebait.

You should have been gone a long time ago.

3. His complaint
is that we take ourselves too seriously - i.e., we don't all laugh at his childish, sexist nonsense. It's like he's telling us to grow up and be more immature.

7. I don't think this post is flamebait
But I have been offended by some of his other posts.

9. What he's telling you above is to get used to it.
Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 09:43 AM by Maddy McCall
That you should tolerate his childish, offensive, crappy posts because there are more to come.

Then he followed it up with a sexist post about Hillary being a witch.

So, yeah, it is flamebait, in context.

5. Smokey smells the fire
before it starts it's flame. Delusional poster, a discourse killer himself. Passive agressive bullies are still in fact bullies.

8. I'd Like to Be Able to Have a Rational Conversation of Various Candidates' Strenghts and Weaknesses
Unfortunately, it's impossible to do that without getting jumped on and harassed by people who think elections will be decided by whomever wins the DU propaganda wars.

12. I've seen worse outside of DU.
What we're seeing I think is reflective of visible operatives with agendas out there in public.
