I just want to remind everyone here that Pat Buchanan's number one dirty trick from 1972 was the title of this thread. You can read about it here :

See? I told you. Buchanan left a paper trail. That is why he got in trouble when he told Congress that there were no dirty tricks and then this smoking memo was found.

For this dirty trick--which was supposed to spread a lie about Democrat 1 and make Democrat 2 look like a dirty trickster and make both Democrats hate each other so that they would fight in Miami '72---to work, Buchanan had another important rule:

"We should guard here against a) anything which enables the Democrats to blame us for the mess which takes place in Miami Beach; b) anything which can be traced back to usand c) anything which is so horrendous as to damage us, if the hand is discovered."

Back in 1972, this was pretty damn hard. This history of some of the nasty things done to Muskie to turn him into a nervous wreck and drive him into the race shows that CREEP had to use moles to infiltrate his campaign, steal his stationary, use push polls in his name and all finds of other complicated ways to make the dirty tricks look like they were coming from him. Now, it is very easy to use the Buchanan strategy, because everyone is anonymous on the internet. For instance, at DU all you have to do is sign up as "ObamaSDMan" and you are ready to print vicious lies about Hillary. Or, you can be "WomenRuleTheUniverse" and you can trash talk Obama. Never mind that you sit side by side in the same room in some RNC oppo headquarters in DC or that your Freeper names are "WhitePower" and "Adolf'sLoveSlave".

The moral of this short but bitter thread is that the most atrocious flame bait here is not even being posted by Democrats, so, in the spirit of the Yippies, just have fun with them.

1. This is par for the course.

But it applies to the repukes too. Much of the RW talk radio and commentary have done the same to themselves as they hate McCain with a passion despite their occasional claims to the contrary. The repuke party is self-destructing as well. That seems to be something that few will talk about. The "big tent" repuke party has lost many of its acts in its 3-ring circus.

2. Have you noticed that ole Pat has not been on teevee lately.

I'm wondering if calling MSNBC on tolerating his racist and sexist crap has had an effect. I don't recall seeing him on any program in the past week.
