Soldiers Support Obama!
Though the military is not supposed to engage in partisan political activity, these soldiers spoke out about their personal endorsements, and their opinions are likely to matter. In 2004, 73 percent of the U.S. military voted for a presidential candidate, and officials believe it may be even higher this time around.

PFC Jeremy Slate said he supported Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., because of his stated intention to pull out of Iraq right away.

"That would be nice," Slate said, "I'd like to be home, yea."

SFC Patricia Keller also expressed support for Obama, citing his representation for change.

1. "don't really know which issues are too important to me right now. ... I don't know who's running"
"Though the soldiers have been living in Iraq, they listen closely to the candidates on issues far beyond the wars they are fighting."

The reporter needs to make up her mind.

4. Interesting story.
As an Obama supporter, I wonder how representative it is of all soldiers. I see a lot of angry war hawks commenting on the story in the comments section of the link. It's refreshing to know that some people in the military are not closed-minded toward Democratic candidates.

6. A little more evidence -
"Barack Obama has received the second highest amount of contributions from military members with a total of $94,000 contributed to his campaign. Obama was also against the Iraq war from the start although he has not been as strong as Paul as far as calling for an immediate withdrawal and he has, unlike Paul, voted to continue funding the war.

Less flattering is the fact that Hillary Clinton leads all presidential candidates in the amount of money received from lobbyists. Clinton’s campaign received $823,000 in 2007 from lobbyists. Clinton also received more money than any other candidate from lawyers and the securities and investments industry."

That was from early February.

9. I'd like to confirm this with the result of an informal poll taken with local reservists
Informal meaning not done by a paid group but by one of the reservists asking his buddies 'under the radar'. The bulk will be voting for Obama, some for Clinton, and one for McCain. The reason the Obama supporters gave for choosing him was that they feel he will do the best in bringing the troops home from Iraq. After I found this out, I went from voting for Obama to becoming active for his campaign.

11. Oh no. They haven't a clue that Obama is going to keep them there
and so is HRC. So much for being informed voters, more like "I am on the bandwagon now"

16. "being a decent leader doesn't have to do anything with experience much"
When asked if he was concerned about criticism that Obama had less political experience than some of the other candidates, the battle-weary soldier replied, "No, I think being a decent leader doesn't have to do anything with experience much."

Interesting so many are supporting Obama. No McCain supporters there. Wonder what a poll would reveal of military support for McCain?
