Interest In Seeing Accurate Headlines To Support Your Candidate
You already knew the lady had resigned as an Obama delegate. You already knew this had nothing to do with Obama. Yet you still posted it with a factually inaccurate headline skewed to attack a fellow Democrat.
Shame on you.

|
I have shown you this. She said (in your own OP article) that the kids were "acting like monkeys", not that they were. Your headline continues to imply that she called them this directly, instead of comparing their actions to those of monkeys. Bad enough, to be sure, but you don't have to make it worse than it was. That is YOUR contribution to incivility in this forum. And all the incivility on the other side you can point to is NOT ENOUGH to justify what you have done with this thread.
Shame on you.

I find that the Obama Campaign asking her to step aside is what is troubling.
And what is also troubling is that most of the Obama supporters on this thread not even catching the irony of it all. And you didn't either.

Moving to nip in the bud some potential bad press, White House hopeful Barack Obama's campaign persuaded a delegate to step down after she was ticketed for calling her neighbor's African-American children "monkeys."
There's the connection.

until she started yapping about people 'beating up on her because she was white.'
She should have thought a little more about how to respond to the intial outrage, and she could have preserved a little dignity.
But, no. She started yammering like some crazy racist woman that 'the blacks' were out to get her.
She could have preserved her legacy, but she instead insisted upon 'fighting back' - and ended up looking like an out-of-touch old fool.

And so when she claims the possible first black nominee for a major party is affirmative action in motion, we should indulge her because she's "historic." I doubt Ferraro would be impressed with anyone's "historicity" if they insisted Hillary would be anywhere but where she is if she married differently. I think her head would probably explode into confetti.

Village President Bill Sarto said. "To a great extent, you have to take the remarks and put them in proper context. Ramirez Sliwinski, who is Hispanic, was issued a citation alleging that she violated a village ordinance prohibiting disorderly conduct. The ordinance bans conduct that disturbs or alarms people, and one of the boys told police he was scared by Ramirez Sliwinski's comment, Police Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said.
The citation carries a fine of $75.
"She was not arrested. She was not fingerprinted. It is a local ordinance violation," Kilbourne said.

|
Told of the incident Monday by the Sun-Times, Obama's campaign called Ramirez-Sliwinski and persuaded her to step aside as a delegate because the campaign felt her remarks were "divisive and unacceptable."
"Given the incident, she is stepping down as a delegate and will be replaced," said campaign spokesman Ben Labolt.

61. The article indicates 'Disorderly conduct' is what she was fined for |
|
"Ramirez Sliwinski, who is Hispanic, was issued a citation alleging that she violated a village ordinance prohibiting disorderly conduct. "

65. Carpentersville. She's in Carpentersville. Not Chicago. |
|
A Chicago cop would beat the crap out of you for bothering them with such penny ante bullshit.
But in a city where the village trustee feels it is her duty/right to go onto her neighbor's property to tell her neighbor's children they are not allowed to play in her neighbor's tree ... it is hardly surprising they can ticket you just for pissing off your neighbor.

Opposition leader Judy Sigwalt said, "We are elected officials. We are in a position where people look to us for leadership and professionalism. We have to be diplomatic at all times."
"Frankly, I don't see a law that was broken here," Sarto said. "I think this entire thing has been blown out of proportion. She's a good neighor. She went over to caution the children to be careful not to fall out of a tree.
She has never indicated to me any prejudice whatsoever. We have a trustee who has been convicted on four counts of domestic battery and refuses to resign from the board. He beat his wife with a baseball bat. This seems far less egregious to me."
Ramirez-Sliwinski's $75 ticket was for "disorderly conduct," which Kilbourne defined as, "when a person does something that alarms or disturbs another."

73. If that's their definition, it's blatantly unconstitutional because it's vague and overbroad. |
|
Esp. when that law restricts freedom to speak. She's going to win her case.

This is the stupidest thing to be fined for, I think.

76. I don't know whether this woman is a racist or not. |
|
She sounds like kind of a busybody at any rate - yelling at neighbor kids for climbing a tree not even on her property, especially when the parents were right there. I'd be pretty angry if those were my kids, and I can well believe the children were frightened. As for the "monkeys" comment, many people use that term for boisterous children in an affectionate way, with no racist intent. I guess you'd have to know this woman personally to have a better idea of whether she meant it in a racist way or not, but I certainly don't blame the neighbors for being offended. I don't think that any of this is reflective of Obama. However, I have to wonder whether most Obama supporters on here would be as reasonable if this woman were supporting my candidate. I can easily imagine many remarks about us "racist" Hillary supporters.

91. Actually, it was the Obama campaign that asked the woman to step aside. |
|
I found irony in this. I too believe, which I never editorialized on above, that it was blown out of proportion and that she should not have been asked to step aside.

95. Why is monkey considered racist by itself? Here's my monkey story. |
|
Last Christmas I took a box of about $200 worth of new, stuffed monkeys to a food pantry so they could give them to kids. When I walked in with my box, a black woman approached me and I said, jovially, I had a box of monkeys to donate. If looks could kill, I'd be dead. I can't imagine what the hell she was thinking. So she grabbed the box from me and took it to an adjoining room while a volunteer gave me a receipt for tax purposes. As I was on my way out I heard her open the box and say, "Oh, aren't they cute!" I hope it dawned on her that every time someone looks cross eyed at her it isn't racism. I'd probably call kids in trees monkeys, too.

Why did the Obama campaign ask her to step aside? I find this part of the issue quite troubling.
