7. Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word (applies to Iraq and her campaign)
What have I got to do to make you love me
What have I got to do to make you care
What do I do when lightning strikes me
And I wake to find that you're not there

What do I do to make you want me
What have I got to do to be heard
What do I say when it's all over
And sorry seems to be the hardest word

It's sad, so sad
It's a sad, sad situation
And it's getting more and more absurd
It's sad, so sad
Why can't we talk it over
Oh it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word

29. Thank you. Elton John fan since 1970, and that jumped out immediately.
Certainly not his biggest hit, but it came to mind immediately.

It seems to fit on so many levels, including her campaign tactics, strategies and decisions, but on Iraq it fits perfectly.

And tragically. She still can't bring herself to say "I'm sorry" for her war vote. Just that she's sorry that it turned out badly.

Kind of like those who apologize "to anyone who may be offended."

Forget it, Hillary.

40. I saw Elton last week in Las Vegas with his "red piano".
Great show. Very personal. He joked and talked about old memories over the years between songs.

I know he means well supporting Hillary, but I do wish he'd helped Obama at this point since Hillary is no longer even credible to the general public anymore.

You picked the right song.

35. I am an artist
who actually makes a living playing music and I do the theme song from that movie Friends-great song

I hope the day will be a lighter highway
For friends are found on every road
Can you ever think of any better way
For the lost and weary travellers to go

Making friends for the world to see
Let the people know you got what you need
With a friend at hand you will see the light
If your friends are there then everything's all right

It seems to me a crime that we should age
These fragile times should never slip us by
A time you never can or shall erase
As friends together watch their childhood fly

20. Ball and Chain:
I got a ball and chain hanging around my heart
You were the one to blame for tearing my world apart
I got a heart so true, you got a heart of ice
A little more love from you, it could have been paradise

I got a ball and chain hanging around my heart
And if it's all the same maybe we should part
And I'm singing do do do...
I'm singing do do do...

You had to tie me down inside a cage of doubt
I'm sick of being kicked around so this is where I get out

Oh oui baby you tried to hold me but you were slowly
Driving me insane
Oh oui baby

I got a ball and chain hanging around my heart
You were the one to blame for tearing my world apart
I got a heart so true, you got a heart of ice
A little more love from you, it could have been paradise

I couldn't take your pain, you couldn't take my love
So I'm gonna quit this game `cause baby I've had enough

21. Better not play "Goodbye England's Rose" his tribute to Princess Di, who OPPOSED cluster bombs!
There's some serious cognitive dissonance going with Elton John raising money for a politician who voted AGAINST banning the cluster bombs, which Princess Diana worked so hard to ban.

He got a lot of publicity and sympathy for his supposed anguish at the time of her death, but he's apparently forgotten how important it was to her to raise public awareness on these most evil of weapons - which maim and kill far more women and children and elderly civilians than any other weapon - and keep killing and maiming for years after "peace" has been declared.

26. Ego.
This could apply to most politicians, actually.

Take a look at me now and take a taste of the money
I'm not in it for the bread I'm in it for the gravy, honey
Step on the thin ice lightly
And check out the show twice nightly
'Cause I'm on the stage tonight
And if the price is right
I will amaze before the light I crave the light
Blinding white I need the light tonight

Take a look at me now and take a look at my billing
I'm not in it as an extra, I'm in it for the killing
Inflate my ego gently, tell them heaven sent me
'Cause I'm so expressive and I'm so obsessed with my ego
My ego and it's message
Oh inform the press, invite the guests
I need the press tonight

Do you remember acting out your youth
A Romeo resplendent on an orange case
Do you remember how I would recite
And how I'd blow my lines and hide my face

Well maybe it was childish, foolish, before schoolish
Immaturish, lose your coolish
But I had to grow and prove my ego

Take a look at me now and take a taste of the money
I'm not in it for the bread I'm in it for the gravy, honey
Inflate my ego gently, tell them heaven sent me
Oh 'cause I'm so expressive and I'm so obsessed with my ego
My ego and it's message
Oh inform the press, invite the guests
I need the press tonight

this thread is hillarious

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

the chorus at least applies....

From one you learn something
Another you learn, nothing
And there's one who might teach you everything
But before I learned to listen
And if indeed someone said it
Then I guess I must have lost it on the wind

50. I Fall Apart
Edited on Wed Apr-09-08 12:35 PM by zulchzulu

Without you I no longer swim upstream
Where are you when I try to fill the spaces in between
The red letter days and all the pain
And while I remain shipwrecked everything has changed

And I fall apart
With this threat of indecision
Hanging in my heart
This house can get so lonely
When the day grows dark
And it seems to be the night time
When I fall apart

Can't you tell the shadows no longer comfort me
I don't feel the need to cling to anyone I see
This fool's suffered gladly each and every day
I don't wish to reconsider, I wish they'd stay away

I've no care to count the stares that pity me
I'll wash your hurt away just you wait and see
For every rose you give her I'll give her three
But in the meantime I'll just wish that she was me

62. Well, it was kind of an obscure single
#21 on Billboard in 1981. I remember hearing it on the radio back in '81, but I don't think I've heard it since.

Another song on the same album is called "Fascist Faces." Don't think we'll hear that one either.

Interestingly enough, many of Elton's songs sound rather ominous:

"Sartorial Eloquence (Don't Ya Wanna Play This Game No More?)"
"Wrap Her Up"
"Cry to Heaven"
"Heartache All Over the World"
"I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That"
"The Last Song"
"Recover Your Soul"
"A Step Too Far"
"Turn the Lights Out When You Leave"
"Where We Both Say Goodbye"

I see you tempt the night
I see you take a bite
You can tell me you were home
But the camera never lies

You walk out in disguise
To pull the wool over my eyes
You play me for a fool
To believe your alibis

And you can count on being safe as houses
Underestimate my eyes
But you can't argue with the image
The camera never lies

There's no distance put between us
Safe enough for you to hide
I'm watching all of your secrets
The camera never lies

as well as 'I've Seen That Movie Too'

I saw him live back in the mid-seventies after he came out with the 'Rock of the Westies' album. He played for 3+ hours with a 20 minute break in the middle, and you could still name 10 or 20 hits he didn't manage to play that night.
