Oh please, oh please, oh please -- I am begging here
Please let them think this is a good idea.

(April 11 'protest' update from "the forum").

Suggestion was made:

BRING POT AND METAL SPOON FOR MAKING NOISE AT THE PROTEST.

Suggest people bring a metal pot and spoon as noisemakers. Let me tell you, 500,000 people in the Plaza de Mayo in Buenos Aires banging on their pots got a heck of a lot of attention by everybody in that huge city! You guys, with your enthusiasm, could bring the place to a standstill!

1. You've got to be kidding me
A whole bunch of Hillary supporters gathered banging pots and pans....lol...oh dear God. I fell off my chair. I thought the groups of people standing at intersections with the honk for Hillary signs was a waste of time but this takes the cake. PLEASE Hillary supporters do this. I'm begging you to bang your pots and pans.

2. Molly Ivins thought it was a good idea...

We are the people who run this country. We are the deciders. And every single day, every single one of us needs to step outside and take some action to help stop this war. Raise hell. Think of something to make the ridiculous look ridiculous. Make our troops know we're for them and trying to get them out of there. Hit the streets to protest Bush's proposed surge. If you can, go to the peace march in Washington on January 27. We need people in the streets, banging pots and pans and demanding, "Stop it, now!"

A good portion of her support comes from women aged 30 and over. So its most likely that they are going to out number men at least 2-1 at this event. This is going to come off sexist but its going to look like a bunch of angry housewives banging pots and pans in the street.

14. Let me get this straight just so I understand...
One of the reasons being complained about is someone told Hillary to fix them a sandwich, iron their shirt, I think I've even seen someone complain that someone said she should be baking cookies.....well whatever....

So now as I understand, they are going to take metal pots and spoons to the "protest".....

Something doesn't add up here

I actually feel sorry for Sen. Clinton, because this is going to be embarassing for her.

17. I hadn't even thought of that angle
I will say that from what I saw today, posts about the protest are reportedly being deleted from the HRC site and this group is making sure that they distance themselves from her official campaign.

To me, it is rather sad. Bunch of people blow off the war yet will bang spoons against pans in mid-town Manhattan because they don't think Hillary is getting a fair shake in the election.

34. Unless what?
Unless I'm someone who left or was banned and has returned under a new identity? I'm not. And I think it was cowardly of you to insinuate that with your hanging ellipse. And rude to bring up post count in the first place. I've been here since February. I don't even make a conscious effort to form impressions of other DUers and Yael still made a strong impression over time as an obnoxious poster. Maybe he/she has made some constructive threads that I've just missed, but it seems like everything I've seen is just hate-baiting. And this thread is a good example. Do you really think all the Hillary supporters you insult are going to hop on board to support your candidate if he wins the nomination? Do you really believe you're NOT just creating bitter feelings that could hurt your candidate in the long run?

35. Sorry
Taking to the streets with pots and metal spoons is ridiculous. If this was June and there were 537 votes seperating them and the Supreme Court was deciding this maybe I can see doing that. We have bridge building when its done but don't you think a candidate should withdrawl before it gets to the point that you have your supporters so whipped into a craze that they are taking to the streets banging pots like some sort of Parisian mob? When there is no way for you to legitimately win this thing? I think he's only pointing out how crazy the other side has gotten.

40. Difference in campaigns
I've met several paid staffers over the past month....if any of them got word, even if we were losing, that we were going to bang pots and pans to protest racism or some other ism they would do everything they could to talk them out of it. For the sake of the Senator's dignity I hope they are doing the same over on her side and realize what a terrible idea this is.

If this gets mainstream media coverage her polling among the male demographic will drop by at least 5 points.

They are planning on doing this. They are planning to taking to the street in NY banging pots and pans...wow they really don't understand PA at all. If this gets national coverage...drop another 2 points.

If they were planning on doing some sort of march to support their candidate in a Primary it would be one thing. A positive thing. A protest is a negative thing. In a state that has already voted.

36. It is hateful. What's the point?
Stalking another LW forum to bring comments back here to ridicule serves no purpose at all except to further divide us as a Party. Yael is obviously not worried about this idea embarrassing Clinton - he is salivating at the prospect. If he were worried, he could have posted his concerns on the original forum. And even if he wants them to go through with it and for it to turn out badly, why not just keep his/her mouth shut and let it happen? So afraid it might not really happen that it's necessary to drag the comment back here for others to mock? I shudder to think of the comments someone could drag to another forum from DU.

First I have heard of this but i gather from reading this thread that the Hillary peeps are mad at The Today Show and plan to show up with pots and pans to protest on Friday?

WOW. I guess they think NO ONE has ever thought of making noise in front of those windows before? This is just proof to me that Hillary and her peeps are not the least bit progressive.

As a real live lifelong progressive, and a member of the anti-war community for a couple decades now, I can report that yes, many times in the past people have actually gone to The Today Show and GMA and the CBS Early Show and tried to protest and were IMMEDIATELY escorted away from the show by network security.

Here is my report of our experience with the CBS Early Show last August:

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/proud2Blib/46

Now if Hillary and her peeps were progressive, they would know that this has been tried many times before. But hey, for entertainment sake, I vote to not tell them. The visual of them with their pots and pans being escorted away is just too beautiful.

45. They have lost it-Its that simple
NBC is supposedly sexist because they don't cover her campaign the way her supporters would like. So they are having a protest against sexism at NBC over Hillary (never mind that SNL has been puffing her up since before the OH/TX primaries.) See they have decided the reason she is losing is sexism in the media so they are going to try to disrupt the Today show with loud pot and pan banging to bring attention to NBCs sexism. They got the idea from someone who saw a Military Junta's agenda reversed by 500,000 people taking to the streets banging pots in pans in Argentinia....yes that's right they are comparing NBC news to a South American dictatorship. If you go to their site they are also utterly convinced Obama supporters plan on showing up to attack them. So expect the NYC police department to be called secret agents of the Obama campaign come Friday afternoon when their protest is broken up.

there is a protest against Obama?

is this that fake FL MI "disenfranchisement" claim?

OK now I see... found the details above me

Sexism eh? I don't like sexism. I have always voted for the woman when it was a dem on dem contest. Just like we, in the Party, always try to elect our delegates with deference to representing our broad base of members.

Women, Minorities, Seniors, Disabled, Veterans...

That's how Democrats do it.

I just ain't supporting Clinton. I don't watch MSM much...

Has this station really been engaging in Pro-Obama sexism against the Clinton campaign? I'd have to see evidence of that before marching.

54. They are losing
They thought they had this won in September. They don't understand why they are losing. The only thing they can do to explain it is that the MSM is sexist against Hillary. Not that she's run a disaster of a campaign and squandered every opportunity she had.

Anyone who says anything somewhat critical about her, or the way she's managed her campaign is branded a sexist by their most ardent supporters.
