A wager on who Obama picks as Veep.
I'll bet almost any amount of money that it will not be a black man nor will it be a woman. Anyone care to bet? I want to save this post for posterity cuz I know I am right.:headbang:

They would never give him the VP spot. She was promising it to people like Bayh.

81. Why SHOULD he consider someone's gender? The whole point...
is to choose the best running mate, regardless of gender or race. There are a LOT more middle aged white men to choose from, who would add to the ticket, than black men or women or white women or Latino women or ... you get the idea.

Fact is...politics is all about numbers. Another black man wouldn't bring much to the ticket (but a couple would...thinking Colin Powell, but he's a Repub). I can't think of any woman, other than Hillary Clinton, who would bring crucial votes to the ticket. But there are a number of white men who would.

It's all numbers. Obama's got the numbers to be at the top of the ticket. He will no doubt look for someone who has got the numbers to be second on the ticket. Votes in crucial states, lots of popular votes generally, money, add to the folks who would contribute to the campaign, connections, etc.

58. Do Hillary supporters want to see Roe v. Wade overturned?
I think he will do all he can do win over Hillary supporters.
I think Hillary supporters, especially women and older women that gave Hillary support, is that if you vote for McCain or stay home, you are going to role back any progress made by women, as McCain is almost definitely indifferent about women's issues. He doesn't even know what condoms do! And he will appoint people on the Supreme Court who are "strict constructionists" which is a codeword for, someone who will overturn Roe v Wade.

Do you want someone who knows NOTHING about the economy, healthcare, choice? will you spite the entire country because your candidate was not chosen?

She IS a Senator, and two of them on the ticket isn't a good move. Also, I remember Senator Boxer saying a few months back that she had no interest in running for President (and one would assume VP) because she thought she was needed in the Senate. I'd have to agree..... we wouldn't want California putting another Feinstein/Harmon type in her place, would we? Or would it be a Herr Gropenator appointment? (even worse) I forget what the rule is there.

Just because Obama voted against does not mean he knew anything would be different. Hell, if the Iraq war were over now, the rethugs would be chirping like chicken hawks at their success and Obama would look like...Obama. It makes no difference who voted aginst it now...it's about who can get out us. We need to be out, no sense on going over the past. I see no indictaion that he is qualified nor does he have a viable strategy.

The past does matter. Lets face it he had a better sense of what was going on in the region than her.

but the very fact that you're a part of an administration means you have to curtail yourself somewhat. I think we need Biden in a position where he can pretty much call his own shots without having to worry about toeing the admin's line. Plus, I'm not too sure how well Biden COULD curtail himself :7.

69. her name always pops up
But I think it's just speculation more than anything. I doubt he and his staff have given VP thoughts much, if any consideration. I doubt she'd turn Kansas blue in November (others may disagree), so it's a case of to what degree can she "bring back" female voters who are cool to Obama nationwide.

46. I think it should be a woman. I would be willing to bet, just to encourage
that idea.

60. I think he might pick a woman
Depending on where things stand at the end of the primaries picking a woman might be really smart for him, in order to reach out to women who are disappointed about Hillary not being the nominee. I am terrified of McCain picking a woman and getting some Democratic women as a result. I think Sebelius, Feinstein, or maybe Maria Cantwell might be good choices.

67. the answer lies in what he considers he's weakest on.
That's what he said the other day--he'd pick someone who had something he lacked.

I hope he picks Richardson.

If he picks a woman, everyone will say he needs her to get Hillary's supporters.
If he picks a white man, everyone will say he needed a white person to get elected.
(Although in fairness, most available people are indeed white men)

Richardson is big on the environment and diplomatic foreign relations. And he's not from Washington, at least not recently.

I'm probably wrong though. Obama usually comes up with something entirely unexpected.

75. No to the backstabber, he'd lose Hill supporters
In a heartbeat, guaranteed. Then it will all make sense why Richie jumped ship and everyone would be oissed.

78. No, because he failed as a human being to remain
loyal to the family to which he owes everything he's accomplished in his professional life.

Without being hand picked out of the dozens of equally qualified people for those jobs with the Clinton Administration, he'd be just another lawmaker.

Now we're hearing he promised Bill Clinton five times that he would not support Obama.

Of course, now it all makes sense.

Since Mr. Richardson needs help in achieving, he dumped Hillary because he saw his chances of getting another job with the White House fly out the window.

There's a difference between "kissing master's ass" and loyalty.

You don't know the difference?

What a rotten human being Mr. Richardson turned out to be. Just terrible.

That he wasn't going to kiss their feet?

85. People keep bringing this up, and I'm not sure why....There's
only one job opening for president, so friends will end up running against each other.

The comparison is apples and oranges.

There's a huge difference between running for president and siding with someone once you drop out.

Richardson was very courteous toward Hillary during the debates, which is why many pundits kept saying they wouldn't be surprised if Richardson was posturing for the VP slot.

Which is OK, because he would be better as Attorney General.

Hell, I think I need to start one of those "Dream Team" cabinet threads......

86. I've been thinking Bill Richardson for a long time.
I'm thinking that's even more likely after the recent endorsement. Obama's probably got a good shot at flipping some of the formerly "red mountain West" states as it is, even a better shot with a Western governor on the ticket. And Bill Richardson has a solid background in the areas of energy and foreign policy, which are obvious assets given the current state of the world.

Obama/Richardson sounds like a damned good ticket to me.
