DU: The Untold Story.. why primaries is so GODDAMN ugly
Let's scroll back to 2004.... (flip, flip, flip, flip) - the primaries were just getting underway, with Kerry winning Iowa, and the Dean Scream occurred, there were Clark supporters, Dean supporters, Edwards supporters, Kuchinch supporters, heck even Gore supporters (lurking) and everyone were sniping and just being goddamn nasty. Fast forward to 2006. We all forgave each other and worked very hard to elect Democrats to the Congress and take back the Senate (and we were pretty busy sniping at Lieberman supporters too). Fast forward to today, and look at this mess...

The true untold story.

And DU is really a very small representative of the true Democrats working for our candidates - the real people are out there campaigning, and we're like the 101st Fighting Keyboardists of the Free Republic sniping at each other. It'll be over soon, and we'll see unity - Kerry was barely united because Dean backed Kerry after he dropped out, and encouraged us Deaniacs to back Kerry - we did, unenthusiastically - didn't care for the Swiftboats - Kerry got what he deserved, even though we made it happen that Kerry promised to contest Ohio if it came close - he didn't. He dropped out quickly. Today, Kerry has been backing Obama, and there is real, and true enthusiasm in Barack Obama. A very, very tiny (even Hillary supporters at DU admits it) faction of Hillary supporters has been 100% negative on Obama, and trying to make shit stick which hasn't thus far.

The true untold story.

2. I wasn't here for the 2004 primaries
Nor the 2004 election. I came in right after that - completely devastated.

I remember the 2006 thing. I will say the atmosphere was fairly harmonious in 2006. Although I did get in a few tussles with DLC types that laughed at me because I wouldn't back their lackey, Lieberman.

This year has been a mess. Yet, if we hold strong, we'll get through it and win.

4. This primary season has not been uglier
It has been uglier for longer. Before South Carolina, when we still had plenty of supporters for most every candidate, I do not believe the discourse here was any worse than it was in 2004. The big difference in my opinion is that the 2004 nomination was basically settled after New Hampshire and things started calming down after that. This time around the race has gone on longer. If anything, the reason this cycle may seem worse is that the ugliness has "set in". Uniting the party will take longer this time around simply because it took longer for a candidate to win.

5. This post would have at least a modicum of credibility if ...
you could find it within yourself to acknowledge that there are also Obama supporters here at DU who have been "100% negative" toward Senator Clinton. Neither side has covered itself with glory, but your post attempts to portray Clinton supporters as the sole offenders, and it just ain't so.

6. 2004 ended so quickly
it was hard for people to get too entrenched. Even though there was considerable animosity between the Clark and Dean supporters, it didn't get TOO out of hand because both Clark and Dean were basically relegated to the sidelines pretty early; the white heat of primary season lasted, effectively, a month and a half. The protracted nature of this primary, and the long delay between the last primary and PA, have permitted supporters to dig in their heels and snipe about new, and often invented, stories every day.

7. There's no beating around the bush...
The majority of vocal Obama supporters here are hateful toward Senator Clinton.

8. Are you kidding me?
I've seen so many Obama supporters say it's OK to call Clinton a whore, because in their words, "well, she is." There is so much vile, disgusting Clinton hatred here, solely because she isn't progressive enough. Many Obama supporters here have been waiting years to unload all their hatred on the Clintons. It had nothing to do with the way she ran her campaign. That's just an excuse to fuel the fire.
