The real reason, HRC MUST be the nominee
Who's the real dream team?

Many Democrats might believe that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would be the dream ticket in November.

But at least in New York state, a must-win state for Democrats, the real dream team would be Republicans John McCain and Condoleezza Rice, according to a new poll.

The NBC/Marist College survey of Empire State voters says that the GOP team would beat a Clinton-Obama ticket 49 percent to 46 percent and a ticket with Obama on top by 49 percent to 44 percent. A quarter of Democrats in Clinton's home state would break ranks and vote for McCain and Rice, the survey says.

Unfortunately for Republicans, Rice declared on Tuesday that she has no ambitions to be vice president and plans to return to Stanford University when her time as secretary of state is up. McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, is in the early stages of vetting possible VP picks.

A McCain pairing with another name being bandied about for the No. 2 slot -- Joe Lieberman, the independent senator from Connecticut who was the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee -- would not fare nearly as well as Clinton and Obama in New York.

We're in danger of losing New York state. What the fuck is wrong with you people? Can't you see the forest for the trees? If the Goddess of War is not the nominee, you can kiss NY good bye! Massachusetts too.

2. The GE-ish polls right now mean nothing.
We'll know after we have our nominee and the Democratic Party kisses and makes up and joins together in the battle to defeat McCain. Not before.

38. Bingo. They are worse than meaningless, they are misleading.
They reflect nothing since the GE campaign has not really started, and especially since the voting public has not really taken a cold hard look at McStain yet. They think they know him, but they really don't.

Very telling for Clinton. A quarter of her constituents would ditch her for McCain.

Say no to GWAR!

8. Condi Rice on the GOP ticket is a sure recipe for FAILURE.
We'll only lose NY if Clinton isn't the nominee. I don't think Obama will carry it unless he has a New Yorker--and a good one--as VP.

13. Neither will Massachusetts
If Obama is the nominee, he'll lose every single state that HRC won, and lose every one that he won. He should just concede now for the good of America.

21. MA is thought of as a blue state, because it generally goes blue nationally.
However, the voting mix here is now a third Dem, a third GOP and a third INDY.

You just never know. It's a long way between now and NOV.

I realize you are trying to be snarky, but I don't think ANY candidate should take any state for granted.

16. Does RFK Jr. live in New York?
Edited on Wed Apr-09-08 06:31 PM by newmajority
Or was he hoping to move there after Hillary vacated the Senate seat? (Which she won't be doing now)

I can't think of anyone else in NY who I'd want to see on the ticket. Certainly NOT Michael Mukrazy's best pal (and the guy who wants to elect only DLC'ers to the Senate) Charles Schumer!

Bloomberg?? I think he's already said he's not interested, and the guy doesn't seem to know what side he's on, switching parties as often as he changes socks.

Who did you have in mind?

17. Yes, and he's in the front seat for her slot if she wins.
He's endorsed her.

If you think anyone is gonna put a recovering heroin addict on the ticket, that's, well, a PIPE dream!

Too much baggage, insufficient experience, and he isn't endorsing Obama. He's ACTIVE for Clinton. So fuggedaboutit.

Same with Schumer. Active for Clinton.

Bloomberg? Not a Democrat, unmarried, too fucking rich, won't take second place, or play second fiddle. No Way. If that's not enough, the Jew Haters will pile on, too, mainly because he's not "observant" like Holy Joe.

I don't have anyone in mind. I'm lousy at VP picks, actually. I never get them right. Of course, I don't have access to the "oppo" research, either.

I didn't see Cheney coming (especially since I've seen him up close post heart attack) and I never thought Kerry and Edwards "matched." I understood Gore - Lieberman, and it WAS a brilliant pick; had not all those little Jewish ladies mysteriously been "overcome" with adoration for Pat Buchanan down in FL....

22. They're Republicans, a lot of them, though. The "upstate" crowd is quite conservative.
It's a tough balancing act for national office or the governorship in that state.

12. All General Election "what if" polls are crapola...
The GE hasn't started.

Right now, people are going on name recognition and the few, remote things they know about
the candidates.

Wait until the GE kicks into high gear, and our Dem ticket goes after the Republican ticket.

Then we'll have accurate polls.

These polls are bunk right now.

25. What if he chooses George Pataki as his VP? Then he wins NY.
Three term governor, after all. He's got a base. It's stronger than ever since Spitzer fucked up.

Born in 1945. Young enough, not too young to make Popeye look old, though.

Solid executive experience.

Was touted as a possibility for national office in the last few years. Social liberal, but McCain's peeps could say "Oh, Nudge/Wink--we need him to con the Indys into voting for us...pay no attention! We'll keep him in mind!"

He couldn't win a position as dog catcher. Pataki is a has been and shouldn't be again. He didn't run for reelection because he knew he couldn't win.

Barak Obama could easily win NY.

He's a three-term anomaly due to two weak downstate Democratic candidates.

36. Romney ran like hell halfway through his first and only term.
He could not have won if he tried again.

I think Pataki has some staying power if he can get reelected three times. And given the guy who followed him, I'll bet he's viewed with more fondness in the big picture...
