After Reagan Is Buried, Kerry Should Announce His VP |
|
Change the subject, get the focus back on the election. A few days after Reagan's service would be ideal.

1. I don't necessarily agree |
|
He shouldn't announce it until closer to the convention.

Sunday would be good, for the Sunday political shows gas bags to do nothing but talk about it.

7. Sunday shows are taped, usually |
|
If you break news, you break it on Wednesday, so it's in Thursday's papers, which are usually very large. Then you have the story milked on Thursday, Friday and Saturday - concluding the coverage on the Sunday talk shows.

Give some space....let Reagan things settle down.
Also, Kerry should do things on his own schedule, & what is good for his campaign.

4. I really don't understand the rush |
|
The sooner a nominee is selected, the sooner they can start trashing him. Plus, if he waits until the convention, it will seem like more of an actual news event, considering how they've become a bit of a joke lately. There is really no benefit to announcing the VP early, except maybe to placate those of us on DU who can't stand the suspense. :)

8. Actually, the move to announce earlier would make sense now... |
|
...change the headline from "Saint Reagan the Wonderful" to Kerry's VP choice.
Otherwise, we will deal with Reagan nostalgia for another month, and that is not good. Still, lacking the death of his highness, I would have chosen to wait.

6. Well, there is going to be a funeral pyre running until... |
|
...the end-part of July for Saint Reagan, so I guess that would be okay.

|
:7 I don't know when he should announce, but I really wish he would do it and get it over with. :( I'm going to get an ulcer if he doesn't hurry up!!!

10. The news cycle is now so short |
|
they'll have exhausted "Reagan the Hero" in a week, and then we'll get the recall "Reagan the Right Wing Frontman" stories thereafter.
This is the high water mark of Reaganmania. Let the next Iraq travesty knock it out of the papers; announce the nominee to prime the convention hype about 7 days in advance.

11. Wait for the convention. Dennis is still in this thing |
|
and it would be rude for Kerry to select a Veep before then. Unless it IS Dennis. --------------------- An open letter to John Kerry and the DNC: http://www.geocities.com/greenpartyvoter/OpenLetter.htm

13. time will be wasted explaining why they made the decision then |
|
it will be so obvious it was to change the subject especially since right before reagan died the campaign said they will not announce until later in july.
so rather than get the positive coverage and momentum which comes from the vp announcement they will spend time explaining why it really wasn't to change the subject from reagan when in fact it really was. it would look bad. and then the republicans will have a long time to attack the vp candidate. and of course the convention wont get much attention since the vp would have been named and there wouldn't be a surprise element to it.

15. I think you're overestimating |
|
"Otherwise, we will deal with Reagan nostalgia for another month, and that is not good. Still, lacking the death of his highness, I would have chosen to wait."
I don't think so, especially with the 24 hour news channels. They'll exhaust the story in a week.

16. No, Clinton, Moore come first....as Iraq stays violent....then Kerry |
|
announces his VP....Hopefully, Clark, so he can introduce to a wider audience the ideas he wrote in the New Republic (Issue dated June 7) about Iraq....as the U.N. gets further identified with endorsing an illegitimate government, Clark's plan of an International Committee a la the structure in Bosnia, is outlined to clearly draw a contrast to Bushco.
