A small reminder to Sir Elton John.

From tonight's HRC fundraiser:

"I never cease to be amazed at the misogynist attitude of some of the people in this country," he said. "I say to hell with them."

Moreover, in 2001, John duetted with Eminem on the rapper's "Stan" at the Grammy Awards which appears on Eminem's compilation album Curtain Call: The Hits as its bonus track.

LOS ANGELES -- Eminem, the hugely popular rapper often denounced as homophobic, will perform a duet at the Grammy Awards this month with Elton John, a champion of many gay causes.

-snip-

"I'm a big fan of his music, and I said I would be delighted to," the British superstar told the Times. "I know I'm going to get a lot of flak from various people who are going to picket the show."

Eminem has drawn frequent criticism for his lyrics which include references to "fags," fantasies of raping his own mother and jokes about domestic violence.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation called Eminem's participation in the event offensive and was particularly disappointed by John's decision to perform with him. "It's hurtful," said Scott Seomin, entertainment media director for GLAAD. "It's embarrassing."

Last year, the group honoured Elton John with an award for his efforts in fighting homophobia. "Elton's actions now totally violate the spirit of this award," Seomin said.

3. After Yellow Brick Road his music and his voiced sucked. I'm tired of his tantrums. Grow up Elton!

4. I thought the duet was odd when announced
but think it had a positive effect on MM.

5. I think his gesture to Eminem...
...was elegant.

He was trying to melt Eminem's bigotry, by extending a hand.

I respect that. Elton John was being the bigger person, and engaging in some bridge building.

I don't respect the bitchy insinuation that just because you don't like Hillary Clinton--you
are some kind of woman hater.

I'm really sick and tired of it.

It makes women look like catty, whiners who can't handle failure and people who simply don't agree
with them.

Attitudes like this really set the women's movement back about 50 years.

I thought a woman could put her ideas out there and present herself--and maybe get some
rejection--without her crying and screaming, "You just don't like me cuz I'm a girl! "

:eyes: Let's just stop. Please.

6. Please.
Elton was trying to grab some relevance for himself. He hasn't written anything decent in twenty years, and thought he'd glom onto someone who is currently hot, despite his being a homophobic ass. It was beyond crass.

12. That's one take..I had
Two Sparkles take at the time but now I'm beginning to wonder. Would we be "misogynistic" if hilary were winning? Or just 'cause she's losing he has to call us the m word?

7. Hold the phone there skippy.
The homophobic shit that Eminem spewed? But as I remember, that was solved by what would be considered a LARGE contingent of people here running to the defense of the now doughy Eminem. "It's ART!" when I pointed out his lyrics.

And you mention Scott Seoman? That fucking takes the cake. Scott was the mastermind behind the "gay wrestler wedding" that Vince McMahon pitched to him and got his personal blessing that turned into a nationally televised homophobe bashing fest. Scott is a fucking turd moron. I was very involved in trying to stop that little thing that Scott thought would be a "good thing".

So don't pull that selective crap on Elton having a concert for Hillary. Remember according to people here, it's art and just music and him expressing himself.

As far as Scott Seoman is concerned, he would not know a homophobic event if they attached a pink star on his lapel and told him to get on the train.

8. Only thing is, you joined DU in 2003. By which time Mr. Mathers was already a has-been.
Really dude, it's not that hard to click on your bio.

Your failure to realize that any story you tell can be easily vetted on Teh Internets reminds me of someone....Who could it be?

10. I very seriously doubt anyone on DU was discussing Elton John's 2001 appearance with him in 2003
I mean, surely, there were other more pressing things going on.

BTW, how's that sniper fire dodging going?

13. How dare he sit there, and drink all our beer
It's made for us workers, who sweat spit and swear.

Classic lines, Mr. John. The voters of Pa. appreciate that sentiment.
