Can we like fast forward to November, already? America at Breaking Point |
|
Can we just like click the remote and get this thing over with? I am starting to believe America cannot wait until November! Every day I hear more and more stories from more and more people who are at the breaking point - and I am not talking about the primary!
People are having to chose between gas purchases and groceries here in Ohio. They are reaching out flailing their hands in desperation because they do not know how many more months or days they can last with this impending economic collapse! Every day I hear more stories of people either losing jobs, homes, or businesses. Every day I hear of more people who cannot afford the high gas prices and are falling further behind in their struggle to stretch the dollar to pay the basic bills.
I honestly don't think we can wait until January 2009. I honestly believe we need an act of Congress to step in and either force the gas prices down or borrow more money from China to FEED our people here! Everywhere I go, I hear more and more people talking about VOTING and getting rid of the Republicans that brought us into this tragically declining economical state. It used to be the only people who discussed politics were those people like the DUers who have always cared about our country. Now, I don't go into a store, into a gas station, into a bar without hearing almost EVERYONE talking about it. Strangely, for the most part, it isn't the candidates they are talking about. They are talking about HOW TO GET BY FINANCIALLY UNTIL NOVEMBER!
We all know whomever is elected cannot make real change on Day One. We ALL know it is going to take a lot of work to straighten out this mess the Republicans are leaving us with. We need a leader to step forward TODAY and do something to help the people here who are going hungry, the families going without food, the people who may not be able to make it until November!
America cannot wait. So, dammit, lets put aside our differences here and get back ON TOPIC to get rid of the Republican rule of this country. There are many who are depending on those who still have a voice to speak. That voice needs to be speaking out to get a Democratic President and elect additional Democratic candidates to ALL offices.
Now, not tomorrow, not after Pennsylvania votes, not after the last primary, not after the convention but NOW!

6. I believe a Democratic President WOULD make a difference |
|
because maybe they could spend some money to regain jobs! Maybe when the War is over, (which cost trillions) we could possibly borrow and spend a billion or so for real economic stimulus...

many of the current problems are much too systemic to be solved by replacing the corporate lapdog party in charge with another one.

8. Oh, so you think NEITHER candidate can or will change anything? |
|
Then WHAT are you doing in Democratic Underground? If there is no hope for change, then, really, why are you here?

that we can have a President who can resist the corporate pressure. Maybe I am wrong for hoping, but I do have hope.

13. how is that going to bring down the price of gas & food? |
|
do you understand the reasons behind the rise in prices?
it isn't going to get any better, no matter WHO or what party has control over the white house, no matter how hard you hope otherwise. acceptance and preparedness would serve you much better.

15. Don't you think the prices of food and gas are set by policy? |
|
I mean, once a monopoly controls a resource, how else is the price set, if not by policy?

16. try supply and demand, and the costs of doing business. |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 12:54 PM by QuestionAll
the total world output of petroleum has been dropping steadily since 2005, while demand continues to rise. it takes petroleum-based energy to farm the food and get it to stores.
if you want to see the dark & evil hand of monopolistic capitalism behind it, fine- go for it. but the next president still won't be able to do much about the prices.

17. That doesn't seem to square with any of the evidence, at all. |
|
Gas prices haven't tracked market forces for years, or haven't you noticed that? Prices went up due the shortages caused by Katrina and Rita, and yet the next year when production was higher and usage was lower, they still went up even higher. But don't let the facts interfere with your fantasy.

18. denying the truth doesn't change it. |
|
world petroleum output peaked in 2005. (overall supply dropping) demand continues to rise.
or haven't you noticed the cost of a barrel of oil lately?
i don't really care too much if you believe me- the truth will become very apparent to even you, probably in a lot less than a decade.
fare thee well..

We have a new start and hopefully a new chance to make things better. I have to believe that something can change things for the better-life is getting scary financially.

14. the only thing that's gonna change things for the better is a viable, cheap, abundant energy source |

which candidate has a line on that...?
btw- life hasn't even begun to get "scary" financially...better find something to hold onto- it's going to be a bumpy ride from here on out.

19. I agree it will be a bumpy ride from here on out |
|
and I also agree the roots of corruption run deep within both parties. I also know people in general, have had enough and will not sit idly for the rest of the destruction of America. Things are becoming worse every day here in Ohio... and yes it is beginning to become scary, but scare is fear of the future...

12. I'm afraid the damage of the last 8 |

years of Bush will take many many years to turn around. Electing a democratic president will be a good start for change, and Hillary is definitely the one that will go in their with her sleeves rolled up and start the ball rolling in the right direction. Change in our pockets will take time no matter who is elected.
Go Hillary!!
