how do Bill Clinton's extravagant speaking fees compare to other coveted speakers?
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 01:49 PM by Levgreee
I honestly don't see the big deal with him giving a speech, I mean, 100k, maybe, but half a million? How much do Jimmy Carter and other former presidents, and other famous figures, get?

I am wondering if there are other stipulations, business deals or political influence for example, involved with the fees...

1. A lot more than Carl Rove, I'm guessing!
Sorry - just a jab at Rove.

I have no info to honestly answer your question. I'd be interested in the info, though.

14. Eh, don't know.
I mean, I'm not the biggest Clinton fans (still vote for her if I had to) but I say more power to them.

2. Considering that his wife is a sitting senator, there way be more to those fees than just "speaking"

4. "speakers fees" is a moneylaundering term in this usage.
I'm just saying. no one gets 800K to speak somewhere.

6. no tin foil, its an extremely valid question.
especially since the donors list to the library is sealed to the public, questions will and should arise.

9. You should know by now that questions always arise.
Posters with suspicious minds like you are always out there with their shovel and digging up the grave yard looking for something suspicious... like body parts. Oh look! I found a body...someone must have been murdered...call the police and the thought police too.

13. Took 5 seconds to find what neighborhood speaker fees are in. Larry the Cable Guy commands $200K+
http://www.allamericanspeakers.com/sportspeakers/searchfee.php?fee=6

How much do you think Obama is gonna be able to ask for once he retires from public life?

18. I think the phrasing of the question skewed response...like every other thread in GDP.
If the question had simply been how do Bill Clinton's speaking fees compare with other speakers?, you cut down on most of the hostility.

Its the same as if during the Rezko deal if someone asked if Obama's property was bought for the same value as simialr properties in the neighborhood vs what usually happened when someone would say "How much did Obama benefit from his slimy developer relationship".

The answer to the question seems far less important than scoring points.

good to hear it.

If NOT, are you saying what good for the goose is NOT good for the gander?

I can refute your weak logic all day if need be.

Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 03:14 PM by rinsd
I basically ignored it.

Though I don't see a problem with asking the question. Its the framing of the question where one does not care if an answer is given.

"I can refute your weak logic all day if need be"

I may be off ignore but you remain an asshole so please by all means put me back on ignore.

The HRC campaign will cost him millions in future income due to lower overall popularity now.

12. Here's a list of people who command $200,000 + per speaking engagement
http://www.allamericanspeakers.com/sportspeakers/searchfee.php?fee=6

If Larry the Cable Guy can command $200K+, then what should a popular Rhode Scholar former two term President get

17. its not the fee, its who is paying it. If Dubai is paying it and Bill brokers the Dubai ports deal
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 02:56 PM by Lerkfish
then, there's a problem

If the Metropolitan OPera pays him, then there isn't. Do you understand the concept of conflict of interest?

btw: aren't you enjoying that I took you all off ignore? tell me, which do you prefer? me ignoring you weak points or me arguing you into the ground

You choose.

They're going to regret causing such an uproar when I put them all on ignore. They forgot I can outargue them, not that that is saying much.
I imagine they'll start wishing they were back on my ignore list soon.

22. How did Bill broker the Dubai ports deal?
Only thing I have seen was he advised them to submit to a probe and hire Lockhart for PR.

"Do you understand the concept of conflict of interest?"

Sure. Do you understand the concept of proof vs innuendo?

"aren't you enjoying that I took you all off ignore?"

I could care less about ignore or not ignore.

Its your continual whining about DUers and DU itself on other websites that is obnoxious.

27. He charges the most... but that's because he's the best.
Bill Clinton could convince me of anything short of changing my support for Obama. I just love watching that Big Dog's brain work; he's a fascinating speaker because, unlike most pols, he doesn't just let you know what he thinks; he lets you know how decisions are made in the corridors of power. He's a walking civics lesson. He's worth whatever people are willing to pay him.
