Does Hillary Clinton support the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell?
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 02:59 PM by JackORoses
I seriously doubt it.

Some of her supporters here might want to take this into consideration.

After all, it was the Clintons who gave us DADT and the Defense of Marriage Act in the first place.

Not exactly GLBT friendly policies...

1. She does support the repeal
FACT: DADT, while flawed, was a HUGE step forward from what was in place, and the best that could be hoped for.

FACT: DOMA, while unconstitutional, did short-circuit an anti-gay marriage amendment, which stood an excellent chance of passing, and would NEVER be able to be repealed.

You want GLBT-unfriendly? Just look at the homophobe in your signature.

3. Classic Hillarism... Unconstitutional, but Good Enough
"When asked if she would issue an executive order to overturn "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," Clinton said she was unsure if she would be able to use an executive order or if she would have to encourage legislation to allow open homosexuality in the military."

Fact: Executive Order is the only way this policy will be repealed. Congress will not act on it.

Fact: Some Hillary supporters are so obsessed, they will continue supporting her even after finding out she is detrimental to their cause.

5. Yes, of course a homophobe
would support the repeal of DOMA, DADA and extension of all the federal rights of marriage to gay and lesbian people.

YOU are clearly the one frothing with hate.

7. Clinton signed DOMA in 1996. The Fed Marriage Amendment was not introduced until 2002. -eom

10. I disagree about assessment of DOMA.......
It's easier get blood from a stone than it is to add an amendment to the Constitution. Clinton folded when Newt put the pressure on.

Newt could of pushed the issue, but he would have never got the amendment through.

4. Her husband implemented DADT.
I'm sure if she by some miracle became President, she'd make some noise about civil liberties, then like her husband, cave under pressure to the fundies and Repugs.

6. DADT and DOMA are both excellent historical examples of Clintonian Triangulation
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 04:05 PM by Justitia
Does anyone else remember Clinton bragging on RW Christian radio stations about signing DOMA during his '96 re-election campaign? I do.

And Bill, of course, advised Kerry (in his '04 campaign) to support state gay marriage bans.

While Hillary claims to support a repeal of DADT, she does not endorse a full repeal of DOMA.

Obama supports a full repeal of both DADT AND DOMA.
