Bill Clinton in Puerto Rico
Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 04:43 PM by DemGa
That primary is June 1st -- Hillary is staying in this race to win. It will look very good indeed after Clinton's upcoming victories.

BARCELONETA, Puerto Rico, April 8 (UPI) -- Former U.S. President Bill Clinton stumped for his wife 1,200 miles off the U.S. coast at a campaign rally in the farming town of Barceloneta, Puerto Rico.

In what observers say may have been the first U.S. presidential campaign rally in Puerto Rican history, Clinton spoke to an audience in a university courtyard, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

2. She will most likely take PA.
She may take WV and maybe KY. But IN, NC, MT, OR, SD, and Guam are Obama's.

23. Nope.
You can't reduce it to race.

It's why Ohio voted for Bush instead of Kerry; why Gore lost his home state of Tennessee. It's the raison d'etre for the Reagan Democrats. I wish I could take credit for this point, but it's not mine. I borrowed it from Joe Scarborough.

Not my source of excuse justification phrases.

Gore & Kerry lost those states because they were terrible candidates who ran terrible campaigns. Simple enough really.

31. Instead of quibbling over the source,
why don't you simply analyze the substance of the argument? I'm so tired of that on DU. It drastically lowers the level of discourse.

How else do you explain Reagan democrats, the poster boys for grooups voting against their own interests? How do you explain Clinton (anti-Nafta) losing currently in Ohio to McCain (pro-Nafta)?

32. For that, I will use the
oh-too-familiar Obama-gram that the polls will stablize when we have a nominee.

And one poll a race does not make.

37. Great, if I see you arguing otherwise I will call you on it with a link
to this thread.

So maybe you can talk to me about the Reagan democrats and why they consistently voted against their economic interests. That's not "just one poll". That's fact.

In 1992, and more specifically 1996, those folks came home...

TN, OH, WV, KY, FL, AZ, MO, IA, LA, AR, NV, NM, ...

We damn near won TX, VA & CO!

We fielded 1 bad candidate, had 2 bad campaigns.

Put someone up who is electable, and it won't happen again.

"Flavor of the Month" is not cultural.

47. Yeah, look we'll just have to agree to disagree on this.
I think fundamentally those voters looked at Kerry and Gore and ignored their message and viewed these guys as elitist, snobs who weren't regular, down to earth people. Remember how Kerry being French was played up? I think that was a big reason for their loss. It was all about personality. And their didn't resonate with those rust-belt Dems...

15. If Hillary wins PA, she will pick up
IN. Oregon, North Dakota & Montana are not locks for Obama. They are not crockasses. They are actual primaries. Hillary got 47% in the Washington non-binding primary after Obama won the crockasses by 30%. The only thing that is going to stop Hillary's momentum is an absolute slaughter in NC.

20. Ok. First, The WA primary had zero delegates attached.
Had it been for delegates, Obama would have focused on that and won big. I'm sorry your candidate can't work an organization to win caucuses. OR, ND, and MT are Obama grounds, I don't doubt he'll take them. She may take IN, but only if she wins PA by more than 10. NC will be go to Obama, and it very well could be a slaughter.

At any rate. If Hillary takes every remaining contest at an average of 55%, which will not happen, Obama needs only 43% of the Superdelegates.

27. uh, no.
she'd have to win PA by 20+ to pick up that kind of momentum. Furthermore, Obama is forcing her to spend most of her bucks in PA.
If Hillary wins by 10 pts or so, nothing changes.

17. Not sure about Indiana yet.

There's time though. I think she'll stay in to Puerto Rico but I don't really care at this point. She's run out of ideas. Run out of ammo. Running out of money. Has to spend half her time explaining why she's still not out of it instead of talking about issues. All it does is make Obama look better and give him more free publicity and voter interest.

24. Actually, I think the Guam delegates will split(2-2)
U.S. presidential contender Sen. Barack Obama has opened a campaign office on Guam ahead of the territory's May 3 Democratic Party caucus, the Pacific Daily News reports.

Long-time party official Josh Tenorio will head the office, and was appointed Obama's Guam campaign director.

"We must recharge the Guam economy. A strong and prosperous Guam is good for the people of Guam and in the best interests of the United States and countries of the Western Pacific region," Obama said in email statement to the Pacific Daily News.

His opponent, Sen. Hilary Clinton, has supporters on the island but no formal campaign headquarters.

http://www.pacificmagazine.net/news/2008/04/10/obama-opens-guam-campaign-headquarters

It would take nearly 65% for one of them to take a 3-1 delegate count in Guam. It won't get much attention for "momentum" either.

I'm just saying that its the last primary. Bill should be focused on PA, Oregon, NC etc. Instead he's in Puerto Rico. The primary isn't even until june 1.

I think they shipped him off to Puerto Rico because he's hurting Hillary. Just my opinion.
