For the Barack Obama supporters who condone or agree with what Randi Rhodes said
regarding Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro. How would you feel if she spoke of Obama in the same disgusting way? I would go so far as saying that Barack Obama should apologize to both Clinton and Ferraro and distance himself from those obscene remarks.

It was an Obama sponsored event. He can't do his usual Pontius Pilate routine on this one.

Edited on Thu Apr-10-08 08:45 PM by Connie_Corleone
Obama has to apologize for every person who says something negative about Hillary now?

I guess Obama will have to apologize for my comment too.

Get out the pots and pans and protest at Obama headquarters.

Do you suggest we silence everyone with an opinion? How about attacking Rush or Hannity? They say shit like this on a regular basis, but not in a comedy routine.

33. After reconsidering my post, I now feel that I was a bit hasty
in suggesting Obama apologies for what Rhodes had said during her routine, but I think that it would be a nice gesture for him to denounce it. After all, Clinton distanced herself from what Ferraro had said. I think that so-called democrat supporters (Rhodes) aren't doing their cause any good when they speak of candidates from the same party in that way.

34. It would also be a nice gesture ...
... for Hillary to 'denounce' her statement that McCain is a better choice for the presidency than Obama -- who, after all, is "just a speech he gave in 2002".

Yes, I agree that so-called Democratic supporters aren't doing their cause any good when they speak of candidates of their own party that way - or when so-called Democratic candidates do it.

40. The way Clinton "distanced herself" from what Ferraro said was tepid at best.
And if anything, that situation was worse, because Ferraro kept digging herself deeper into a hole by being so defiant about it.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5449098&mesg_id=5449098

“I just want to say something about some of my supporters . . . a lot of them have gotten really excited about being involved in the campaign and for some they tell me they have been waiting for a long time for this kind of campaign to come by. Sometimes they get overly enthusiastic and I would like them to be careful how they talk about those that we are running against. I respect Senator Clinton and I respect Senator McCain. The issues that we are going to face and the big fight that lays ahead of us mean that we are going to have to be clear thinking and cannot be sidetracked by letting our passions get ahead of us.”

27. politicians being called whores is not the same as calling one the n-word...
A whore has quite a few meanings. Now, she should have clarified what she meant, which was referring to Hillary's selling out to the right wing during this campaign. Hanging out with Fox News is selling out (Ferraro). Hanging out with Richard Mellon Scaiffe is selling out (Clinton), particularly when Scaiffe smeared the Clintons for a very long time and said some incredibly hurtful things about Hillary over the years. Rhodes' biggest mistake was not using language that was clearer. Or perhaps she did mean that they were whores in the prostitution sense, in which case she deserves plenty of ridicule for that kind of comment. But I have a hard time believing that a woman would use that word to describe female politicians in that manner. She's a feminist herself, so I do not think that was her intent. But she should have clarified what she meant. Since she didn't, she left it wide open for interpretation and many people interpreted that she meant it in the other way.

36. You don't have to agree with her...
or me, or anyone...but defend their right to say it. People have given their lives so we can have free speech. Randi has the right to express herself. This Dixie chick style attacks have to end. It smacks of a fascist state, people who are black listed, for simply expressing themselves.

People setting out to ruin people's lives and careers because you don't like what they say...It's wrong.

We on DU, have called politicians whores for many years. Men and women. There are more than one definitions to the word "Whore" I dont see what Randi said was any different.

If you don't like Randi Rhodes, there are KNOBS on your radio...when you turn one of those knobs you can change the station. Or you can turn the other knob and you can turn the radio off...see how it works?

Or, they wanted Randi to quit precicely because she hasn't been supporting hillary on air.

56. It seems to me that the most obscene comments in this campaign
have been aimed at Hillary Clinton. I have yet to be convinced that the term "Fucking whore" is not a sexist, degrading term that is aimed at the female gender. If Barack Obama was referred to as a "negro" all hell would break loose, let alone the other "n" word.

If the Clinton supporters used degrading terms to describe Obama, I would be disgusted with them as well.

I really believe that. He fired Samantha Power for calling Hillary a monster. but you must realize Randi is not part of his campaign, so this isn't something he has to do without being asked.

Look, I'm an Obama supporter who is disgusted by what Randi Rhodes said and even more disgusted that she has rebounded at a new gig with basically the same coverage as she had before. It pisses me off that we get furious about what the wingnuts over at Fox, Limbaugh, Beck and what others that are either disgusting or lies, it's reported on Media Matters, Olberman's Worst Person, Dan Abrams, etc... but there was not one word mentioned by either of these people. Newsweek magazine had something - not much, but it put Rhodes in a bad light.

The real liberal media overlooked with great ease the disgusting remarks made by Randi Rhodes.
