Obama fires up crowds in Gary, Lafayette (Indiana)
Obama fires up crowds in Gary, Lafayette

Updated: April 10, 2008 11:24 PM EDT

Gary and Lafayette - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama made his third trip to Indiana Thursday, with stops in Gary and Lafayette.

Sen. Obama arrived to deafening cheers, hand clapping and foot stomping in the bleachers at Gary's Roosevelt High School.

"I'm the closest I've been home in five days," he told the crowd.

For Obama, it was a homecoming of sorts. He cut his teeth on politics 30 miles away on the south side of Chicago. For Gary, it was a kiss of nostalgia. It was there residents elected the nation's first African-American mayor of a major metropolitan city: Richard Hatcher.

"Remembering the days, remembering the events we would go to the national convention and the only way we could get the word in was to pass notes to the podium," he said. "This time around it's just almost unbelievable."

lead since that poll. I can't believe I know that. :eyes:

8. Well, that was today's poll on Hardball, but there are a gazillion polls, many outliers
so who the hell really knows at any given moment?!!

I can't stand the suspense. Aaaaargggh!

10. There have been only a handful of polls, one has a 3-point race
I will point out that they don't poll cell phone users. People that rely on land lines are primarily older than those that depend mainly on mobile technology. For example, I do have a land phone, but its primary use is for an answering machine. My friends know to call me on my cell if they want to get a hold of me.

Poll shows tight primary race between Clinton, Obama
The Associated Press

A look at some of the results from a statewide poll commissioned by WSBT-TV in South Bend, the South Bend Tribune, WISH-TV in Indianapolis and WANE-TV in Fort Wayne.

_ 49 percent favored Clinton.

_ 46 percent favored Obama.

_ Among those age 18 to 29, Obama had a 63 percent to 36 percent lead over Clinton.

_ Among voters over age 60, Clinton had a 60 percent to 34 percent lead over Obama.

<snip>

Research 2000 conducted telephone interviews from March 31 through April 2 of 400 likely Democratic primary voters in Indiana. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.

RCP has the following polls. Notice that the sample size is relatively small:

ARG* 04/02 - 04/03 600 LV 53 44 Clinton +9.0
Research 2000 03/31 - 04/02 400 LV 49 46 Clinton +3.0
SurveyUSA 03/29 - 03/31 530 LV 52 43 Clinton +9.0

3. We are canvassing this Saturday, going door to door.
Obama campaign is truly a well organized grassroots organization. Lots of enthusiastic volunteers, all genders, races, and ages.

I think Obama has a fair chance of winning Indiana, despite the Bayh machine's support for Hillary.

7. Better chance than Penn I think.
If he can take Indiana and No. Carolina, it's over.

Obama's ground game is second to none. Thanks for GOTV!!

5. I just got home from seeing Bill Clinton in Vincennes, the place
Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 01:05 AM by bellasgrams
was packed & inspite of the crowd having to stand in line in the rain to get in everyone was happy and excited. I heard no complaints, as I stood by the doors helping to direct the people on where they needed to go. I'm exhausted but I really enjoyed it. They surprised us with reserved seating when we finished our work. Had a great time as I think everyone did. I never heard so much cheering and applause. Loved seeing him in person. It was worth the drive and the standing for hours.

Post in your own thread or one of the existing Hillary-love threads.

20. President Clinton
is not running for office. The crowd he gets is because he was a former President and yes I voted for him twice and have seen him in person, but I do not want his wife to be our President. I do not like her. I will vote for her if I have to because of the Supreme Court.

Senator Obama is drawing huge crowds and yes I voted for him in the California primary. I try to stay off these boards as much as I love DU which I read every day and I will be so glad when this issue between the two candidates is over with. For years I have had to vote in June when our vote did not count because the election was over with and now other states are getting a chance to make a selection. This year we did it backwards and different. Absentee 'permanent' ballots were sent to everyone on the registrar just after XMAS! I tore my permanent absentee ballot up and threw it in the trash can. Obama would have won California had we voted under normal conditions. Now Arnold is in office, I have to vote 3 TIMES a year! God I despise this man. I voted no on the recall in case anyone should ask.

I hope we can all be friends again when this cycle is over with.
