25. Seriously?
You can look at *'s entire professional career and still believe he's not an incompetent boob at the mercy of people much, much brighter than him? Or did he just become evil in the last eight years?

51. Apparently not.
Since I disagree with you *I* must be the boob not to recognize Bush as this century's Machiavelli. I mean, why shouldn't I recognize him for what he is? His failure in business after business throughout the 1980s, tripping as they did on the heels of a "gentleman's C" in college and a less than stellar "military career" must surely have been a clever plan to distract us from his truly diabolical machinations. It's the perfect plan. How could I have been so blind?

59. I was talking about the triumvirate, not just GWB
The guy is smart enough to play everyone for a sucker and make everyone believe that he is the local town buffoon. Have you seen his tax returns lately? His and Cheney's? Sheesh, open your eyes and understand that the Bush family comes from one of the oldest money families in the world. They have connections that extend all the way back to the Rothschilds and papa Bush is extremely calculating.

Bush Jr is smart enough to do exactly as papa tell him to do.

Bush Jr is exactly smart enough to do as his papa tells him to do.

Whenever he's left to his own devices he fails miserably. I do not believe he is any kind of evil mastermind.

77. Seems we're basically in agreement
He is not smart (I won't call him dumb, for my own reasons). But you don't have to be smart or clever to be rich. That's what coattails are for (and look and Paris Hilton...ok, she *may* be clever)

And he may be evil (I won't go that far either, though I would consider many is his cabinet in such a light). But he's still a boob, and I don't think he comes up with much on his own.

He's not evil in the way Hitler or Tito or Coucescu or Stalin (sp?) or Ted Bundy or Satan were. He's more like...well, I can't think of anybody. I'll keep thinking on it and get back to you.

Unfortunately, their misguidedness extends to ignoring parts fo the constitution, international treaties etc., which makes them so misguided as to be mentally incompetent. On the other hand, I'm less inclined to be forgiving of Cheney and his ilk; because Cheney does not strike me as a stupid person, unable to appreciate the ramifications of the policies he supports.

46. Incompetant, naive, simple minded
And when combined with the powers that the President of the United States holds....very very dangerous.

He is the perfect puppet - surrounded by warprofiteers and people whose own interests trump the American public. Does that make him a bad man?
He fails to uphold the constitution - a presidential oath of office - does that make him a bad man?
He authorizes torture, knowing full well that it goes against the geneva conventions and the military commissions act. Does that make him a bad man?
He jokes in a video looking under his desk for Saddam's weapons of mass destruction, while american troops are put in harms way - BY HIM....does that make him a bad man?

I suppose a person could say that he is insulated from all these important decisions, and lets others do the hard work while he just agrees with what they offer - Dick Cheney once said that George W. Bush was the perfect president.
I've never met the man. I don't think he is a bad man. I think he is psychopathic. I think he is dangerous. I think he is evil. Is that bad?

not 'this' country. I do blame them. They are responsible for over a million deaths. And they are proud of it. I believe that they belong to a sect of society who's perception of the world and life is something beyond the realm of my understanding. I do know all about the arrogance and the self-righteousness portrayed by those human beings who believe themselves to be superior because of the geographic location of their birth, by the monetary worth of the family they were born into, or because the color of their skin, and these people portray that attitude in spades. I only wish them a very long life.

Bush is not a good man, and his administration are trying to do what they think is best for their ideas of empire. Whether that's what's best for the country is for history to decide (although if the fate of past empires is any indication, there's a brief period of imperial glory followed by a long, slow decay and dissolution).

58. Deeply, seriously, inherently WRONG, but not bad...
And I'd probably not stop at just misguided.

I know it's easier to hate him and want him gone if you decide that he's something similar to evil incarnate. That's one of the things that makes him so scary. He's just an average Joe what managed to get to be president and then was able to take his opinions and try to make them reality.

Any one on this board who has deeply held beliefs and got to be president would, far more likely than not, do the same thing and very likely with similarly disastrous results. Certainly anyone who is so convinced of his or her own righteousness as to suggest that they can detect actual Evil in Bush's behavior would be a likely candidate to behaving just as badly as he has.

And, yes, I am willing to say that based on no more what I see posted here. It may be that some folks are actually very different people than their posts here make them out to be, but based on what I read here, 95% of the DU population would screw it up just as badly as Bush has - probably in very different fashions, but with no less disastrous results.

62. Only because we can't
I'd bet that any number of us here would make disastrous mistakes leading to a great deal of misery if we had the power to do so. Probably not the same mistakes, I suspect most here would create serious havoc trying to advance progressive causes just as BushCo have done so trying to advance their regressive ones. But, and I am quite certain of this, most of us would have created just as much misery as he has at the end of a decade.

If you don't think so, then I'm glad you're not running for president, because you're far to convinced of your own righteousness.
