Clintons Will Only the Release Names of Library Donors Who Contribute AFTER She's President
Edited on Fri Apr-11-08 06:35 PM by Stephanie

They plan on NEVER releasing the current and past donor lists, as per Lisa Myers' story on MSNBC today. So we're not going to know how much Dubai, Saudi Arabia, et al. have given to Bill's library, and what sort of favors they might expect in return from Bill and/or Hill. We do know a little about some of the donors - see the NY Sun article below.

Secrets and lies - I've had enough of both, haven't you?

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/04/11/877489.aspx

*** Conflicts of interest: Bill resurrecting the Bosnia sniper story isn’t the only Bill story today that might be giving the Clinton campaign headaches. On TODAY this morning, NBC’s Lisa Myers looked at the money that Bill, his foundation, and his library have received -- from Frank Giustra, Vinod Gupta, the Saudi Royal Family, and others -- that might be potential conflicts of interest if Hillary ends up winning the White House. “Over the last seven years,” Myers said, “the Clintons have brought in huge amounts of money, earning more than $100 million to build their personal fortune and raising $500 million for the Clinton foundation and library. Critics complain there are many unanswered questions about who gave the money, and why.” More from Myers: “Sen. Clinton's campaign maintains she has provided more information than any other candidate. And the Clintons say IF she becomes president, they will reveal any foundation donors from that point on.

Here is video of Lisa Myers' Today show story, just rerun on MSNBC this afternoon. Go to the link and scroll down to the box marked "Today show video - this week's videos."

April 11: The Clintons released their tax returns this week, revealing that they earned more than $100 million between them. NBC’s Lisa Meyers reports on their income and its sources.

Here's a NY Times article from January on Bill's relationship with Giustra >

After Mining Deal, Financier Donated to Clinton

DONATING MILLIONS Former President Bill Clinton with Sir Tom Hunter, left, and Frank Giustra, major donors to Mr. Clinton’s charitable foundation

Here's an example of how that conflict of interest could manifest >

Is Hillary pro-Mountaintop Removal, Because the Clinton Fund Got $131 Mil and More From Mining??

Here are a few of the donors we DO know about, although we don't know how much they actually gave. Awfully generous of them, though.

Saudis, Arabs Funneled Millions to President Clinton's Library
By JOSH GERSTEIN
Staff Reporter of the Sun
November 22, 2004

LITTLE ROCK, ARK. — President Clinton's new $165 million library here was funded in part by gifts of $1 million or more each from the Saudi royal family and three Saudi businessmen.

The governments of Dubai, Kuwait, and Qatar and the deputy prime minister of Lebanon all also appear to have donated $1 million or more for the archive and museum that opened last week.

***
Information about the donors is available to the public on a single touch-screen computer mounted on a wall on the third floor of the recently opened library. Eventually, most who have contributed $100,000 or more will be listed on a wall in the museum's lobby, Mr. Kessel said.

However, some donors have asked that their names not be released. "We don't have many," Mr. Kessel said, adding, "It doesn't involve anyone controversial."

The computer lists donors by categories that correspond to the size of the gift. But there are no dollar figures provided for each of the funding levels.

Asked why the donor categories were not publicly defined, Mr. Kessel said,"It was a decision we made. We really don't need to at this point."

As a charitable organization, the Clinton Foundation is not required to make the names of its donors or the amounts of their gifts public. However, some of the other foundations that contributed to the library have disclosed their gifts on financial reports that are available from the Internal Revenue Service. By comparing those reports with the donor categories on the third-floor computer screen in the library, The New York Sun was able to match donor categories with approximate dollar amounts.

What The Sun was able to discern by comparing the lists >

All of this is not even to mention the hundreds of thousands of dollars Bill charges personally for delivering a speech in Dubai, or the millions he collects for lending his influence to pals like Ron Burkle. Watch the Today Show video for more info. It's damaging as hell. They need to come clean on this. Saying they will come clean AFTER she's in the WH is outrageous.

18. I've never been so embarassed to have given to a library in my life....
...And the Hillary supporters assume I've always hated the Clintons.

Meanwhile the multi-million dollar donors remain hidden - in the Lincoln bedroom if HRC has her way.

13. Say what? - if I give to the Library under agreement my name will not be given out - if you give it
out I will sue you.

Does anyone on DU ever fact check this crap? Lisa is just redoing an Obama handout as always so I do not fault her not checking anything - but on DU I expect folks to find out the facts.

After you learn about the anonymity agreement for all donors except those that wave it, get back to me.

14. It's a conflict of interest regardless.
Bill and Hill do favors, the libary gets donations. It's unethical. As you well know. Especially when we are talking about foreign governments and a potential U.S. president.
